Senior Accountant
Job Type: Full-time Permanent
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Location: In person, Fort Macleod, AB
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday
Salary Range: $75,000 – $90,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
Our group of companies is seeking a self-directed Senior Accountant to take ownership of core financial and accounting activities. The successful candidate will handle financial analysis, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a busy workplace and enjoys working closely with senior management.
This role is designed with growth in mind. For the right candidate, the role is intended to progress into an Assistant Controller and Controller role in future.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly financial statements for review and approval by the CFO.
- Prepare daily/weekly bank reconciliations for approval by the CFO (potentially to be delegated to accounting technicians in the future).
- Collect and analyze financial data, and monitor for variances from the budget.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship to accounting technician(s).
- Review invoicing to ensure it is accurate and timely.
- Review AR to ensure timely collections and direct accounting technician(s) on collection efforts.
- Analyze customer credit and support the approval process for approval by the CFO.
- Oversee company vehicle registration.
- Prepare monthly IFTA reporting.
- Assist in maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist with Review/Audit preparation.
Key Qualifications
- 3-5 years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience. A CPA designation is considered an asset but is not required — equivalent practical experience is highly valued.
- Strong experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet programs and applications.
- A clear and solid understanding of the issues faced by the organization and the industry.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
- Growth mindset- demonstrated capacity and capability to take on more financial oversight, employee supervision, and strategic input to senior management
- Accountability and results oriented: Takes ownership of personal workload, and increasingly of the workload of employees under his/her direction.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to leverage sound reasoning to decision making
