Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for supporting safe, efficient, and continuous production and warehouse operations. Reporting to the Lead Hand and Production Manager, this role ensures the accurate movement, handling, storage, and staging of raw materials and finished goods to support manufacturing, shipping, and production flow.
Key Accountabilities:
1) Material Flow & Production Support: Move, stage, and deliver raw materials and finished goods throughout the manufacturing facility to support production schedules, shipping requirements, and uninterrupted operational flow.
2) Quality, Inventory & Workplace Organization: Accurately receive, verify, and document materials and shipments while maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring compliance with established processes, and supporting overall material traceability within the facility.
3) Safety & Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all company safety procedures and operational standards
Major Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts, shunt trucks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently to support production, warehouse, and yard operations
- Move, stage, retrieve, and deliver raw materials, components, and finished goods to designated production, storage, shipping, and yard locations to support operational workflow
- Load and unload inbound and outbound shipments, including customer pickups, vendor deliveries, and 53' flat deck trailers for scheduled milk runs or as operational demands require
- Safely maneuver trailers within the yard, including positioning, backing trailers into loading areas, and moving trailers in and out of the building using a shunt truck
- Retrieve, stage, and prepare material from the yard or warehouse for outgoing loads, ensuring all products are accurately selected and available for shipment
- Pick, pack, wrap, sticker, band, and prepare materials, trims, screws, foam, and other packaged items to support production schedules, customer orders, and shipping requirements
- Build skids, crates, and other secure packaging solutions as required to ensure safe storage, transport, and shipment of materials and finished goods
- Complete trim crates and prepare specialized packaging for outgoing loads as required
- Receive inbound materials, inspect for quantity and quality, verify shipment documentation, and accurately receive, store, and put away materials in designated locations
- Collect, verify, and prepare small packages, supporting documentation, and milk run paperwork to ensure shipment accuracy and on-time delivery
- Maintain accurate inventory control by locating materials, updating handling units, and completing material transactions within SAP and other required systems
- Perform daily inspections of forklifts, shunt trucks, and related equipment, reporting any safety concerns, defects, or maintenance requirements immediately
- Support production teams by ensuring materials are available in a timely manner to minimize downtime and maintain workflow efficiency
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and yard environment in accordance with company safety standards, housekeeping expectations, and 5S principles
- Identify and report safety hazards, equipment concerns, inventory discrepancies, or quality issues promptly to supervision
- Collaborate with production, shipping, yard, and leadership teams to meet daily operational priorities, customer commitments, and departmental performance targets
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve material flow, inventory accuracy, workplace organization, and operational efficiency
- Comply with all company health, safety, quality, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support production requirements, customer commitments, and overall operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid forklift certification with demonstrated operating experience is preferred
- Stand-up forklift experience
- Manufacturing, fabrication, or sheet metal experience considered an asset

- Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and shop measuring devices accurately
