Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced data privacy and cybersecurity attorney to join the Practical Law Global Data Privacy & Cybersecurity team in Canada.

Role Purpose:
Create and maintain high-quality online legal content and use legal and subject matter expertise to support the development of Thomson Reuters’ AI-powered legal solutions.
About The Role
As a Senior Specialist Legal Editor in Practical Law, you will use your specialist legal knowledge of, and experience in, data privacy and cybersecurity law and practice to create and maintain a wide range of content and to support the development of Thomson Reuters AI-powered legal solutions. Working in a supportive team of highly experienced colleagues, you will deal with a breadth of interesting work.
Responsibilities include:
- Researching, drafting, and maintaining clear, current, and practical data privacy & cybersecurity legal know-how content for Practical Law and other Thomson Reuters products and initiatives in alignment with market practice, customer needs, and business objectives using a variety of evolving tools, formats, and content development methods.
- Monitoring legal, practice, and market developments in data privacy & cybersecurity globally to ensure content remains relevant and accurate.
- Using your legal expertise to support the development of customer-focused AI-powered tools , including identifying and implementing methods that address the intersection of content development and AI-driven legal solutions.
- Partnering with Product Management to innovate on tech development, product enhancements, and the integration of AI into TR's offerings.
- Using your legal expertise and writing skills to support the development and application of internal AI editorial tools.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with external law firm contributors and industry groups to ensure content reflects market practice and meets customer needs.
- Supporting sales, marketing, and other parts of the business, including responding to customer inquiries.
About You

Qualifications:
- JD required.
- Minimum of eight (8) years' experience working as a lawyer in a law firm or in-house with experience in both Canadian and non-Canadian data privacy & cybersecurity matters, with a focus on compliance.
- Experience managing complex, global privacy compliance matters under data protection laws in the US, EU, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America a plus.
- Strong technical skills and the ability to effectively utilize various tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity and accuracy.
- Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to work on diverse projects and tasks within the generative AI space as well as new and emerging technologies.
- Deep curiosity about the increasing intersection of AI and legal practice, with a desire to build legal prompt engineering skills and innovative content development methods that optimize AI responses for specific legal tasks.
- Understand current market issues and proposals to enact, amend, or change data privacy & cybersecurity laws and regulations.
- Understand the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys, in-house counsel, and other data privacy & cybersecurity compliance professionals.
- Skill and passion for writing and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and concisely in plain English.
- Innovative, agile thinker with excellent time management, organizational skills, and demonstrated project management.
- Enthusiasm for working on a dynamic editorial team, comfortable working in an environment of rapid change, and a passion for exploring how AI can revolutionize editorial content creation.
Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to submit a writing sample.
This role can be located out of a home office anywhere in Canada if the candidate does not live near a Thomson Reuters office.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.

For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $126,000 CAD - $176,000 CAD.

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
