Gateway Tutoring Academy is looking for an experienced and dedicated Online TCF Instructor to join our French language and exam preparation team.
In this role, you will support students preparing for the Test de connaissance du français, with a strong focus on helping them improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. You will work with students at different French levels and provide structured, practical lessons based on their individual goals, areas of difficulty, and upcoming exam dates.
We are looking for someone who understands the TCF exam format, can explain French concepts clearly, and knows how to help students build both their language skills and their confidence. All sessions are delivered online, so the successful candidate must be comfortable teaching through virtual platforms and maintaining a professional and engaging learning environment.
At Gateway Tutoring Academy, we take a personalized approach to education. Our instructors are expected to build strong relationships with their students, monitor their progress carefully, and provide the guidance and accountability they need to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver structured online lessons based on the TCF exam format and the student’s current French level
- Support students in improving their speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation
- Teach effective strategies for completing each section of the TCF exam
- Conduct speaking practice, mock exams, timed exercises, and exam style activities
- Identify each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and areas requiring additional support
- Adapt lessons and materials based on the student’s learning style, goals, and progress
- Provide clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback after activities and assessments
- Assign appropriate practice work when needed and review completed work with students
- Maintain accurate session notes, attendance records, and progress updates through the academy’s systems
- Communicate any academic, attendance, scheduling, or student support concerns with the appropriate Gateway Tutoring Academy team members
- Help students remain motivated, organized, and confident throughout their exam preparation
- Stay informed about the current TCF structure, scoring requirements, question types, and exam expectations
- Follow all Gateway Tutoring Academy policies, procedures, teaching standards, and administrative requirements
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong knowledge of the TCF exam structure and assessment criteria
- Previous experience teaching French or preparing students for the TCF, TEF, or another recognized French proficiency exam
- Excellent spoken and written French
- Strong English communication skills
- Ability to explain grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and exam strategies in a clear and practical way
- Experience teaching students from different language levels and educational backgrounds
- Ability to create a welcoming, patient, and encouraging online learning environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Reliable internet connection, professional teaching setup, and confidence using Zoom or similar virtual platforms
- Ability to complete session notes and other administrative responsibilities accurately and on time
- Willingness to collaborate with the Program Director and the Gateway Tutoring Academy administrative team
- A genuine commitment to helping students achieve their French language, immigration, academic, or professional goals
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Experience working as a TCF or TEF examiner
- Formal education or certification in French, education, linguistics, or a related field
- Experience working with adult learners, immigration applicants, or students preparing to meet Canadian language requirements
- Familiarity with Canadian Language Benchmarks and TCF Canada score requirements

Pay: $26.75-$42.50 per hour
