The Northside Employment & Resource Centre is a Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre. For more than 25 years, we have proudly delivered employment programs and services to job seekers and employers throughout the Northside and surrounding communities.
We are seeking an individual who is passionate about supporting community members and contributing to their success. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients, providing information, guidance, and access to the employment support services we offer.
The Information Resource Specialist (IRS) is responsible for gathering, organizing, and sharing current, relevant career and employment information. They assess how well available resources meet the needs of individuals and the broader community, and they connect clients with appropriate support services. As the first point of contact, the IRS ensures that every client is welcomed in a friendly, professional manner that fosters comfort and trust.
Core Responsibilities:
- Receive visitors at the front desk in a professional, courteous manner, ensuring that there is always someone available to greet clients.
- Operate central incoming calls and e-mails.
- Collect, process, and keep track of information; perform reception duties, answer phones, use office equipment.
- Assist clients with resume updates, online applications, and job searching.
- Assist with the development of administrative forms, documents, filing systems, and record keeping systems; input data, provide clerical assistance and services.
- Conduct orientation to Nova Scotia Works services and identify potential service needs.
- Register clients in the NS Works Online LaMPSS system and maintain records of services provided.
- Schedule appointments for clients through Team-Up scheduling.
- Maintain job boards daily.
- Compile monthly statistics and submit to Executive Director for measuring outcomes and accountability.
- Create and post events and jobs to our social media sites.
- Maintain client privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:- Grade 12 Diploma with Post-Secondary Education in Business Administration and/or a combination of education and work experience.
- A clean criminal record check/vulnerable sector check.
Skills & Competencies:
- Good knowledge of community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies.
- Ability to access and effectively use information and communications technology (Microsoft Office applications, Canva, and online communications tools).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Have excellent communication skills and experience working with a variety of client
from varied occupations, levels of education and cultures.
- Problem solving, job task planning and organizing, writing, finding information, decision
making, critical thinking, reading text, document use and continuous learning.
- Demonstrates practice of inclusion, ethical decision making and respect for diversity.
- Commitment to professional development and career self-management.

Compensation Package: 2 weeks accrued paid vacation, paid sick time/personal days, paid holidays, full-benefits package, RRSP, and free professional development.
Pay: $40,000.00-$44,000.00 per year
