Position Summary
The Shift Supervisor will work closely with the Catering & Events Manager and the Member Dining Manager to ensure successful planning, organization and coordination of all assigned functions within the Food & Beverage Department. You will provide high-quality food and beverage experience to the Members and Guests of the Cataraqui Golf & Country Club, while fostering strong relationships with Members, Clients and Guests.
This position includes active participation in food & beverage service during events, working alongside servers and bartenders. There may be occasions when you will be expected to represent Food & Beverage Management and provide assistance and coverage with all aspects of Food & Beverage services. Food & Beverage team members can expect to look to you for guidance with customer relations and interpersonal issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the standards, recognition, coaching, training and counseling of catering & event servers and bartenders. Monitor food & beverage labour costs
- Supervise all servers and bartenders in Banquets to help ensure excellent and proper service
- Greeting and assisting members and guests at the Club
- Act as point of contact with the Kitchen to resolve timing issues, order discrepancies, and food quality issues with no focus on blame or origin
- Ensure all Members and Guests are completely satisfied with their event experience, resolving any issues as they occur
- Assisting with service – taking orders, wine service, serving and clearing. Assist with final billing and bar consumption sheets, ensuring any sales are calculated correctly, member chits and charges are processed correctly, and cash out is done to specifications
- Receiving and resolving complaints concerning food, beverage and event service, advising the Catering & Event Manager and Director Food & Beverage to determine the next steps, if any
- Receiving compliments, praises and approvals, advising the Catering & Event Manager and Member Dining Manager
- Serve as a liaison between front of house and back of house staff
- Ensuring the proper appearance, safety and cleanliness of all event dining areas, equipment and fixtures. Making suggestions for improvements for event dining and service
- Ensure the clubhouse and other club areas are secure at the end of the day
- Assist management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling and disciplining
- Motivating and coaching employees in a fun and safe work environment
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, supporting the team to reach
common goals
- Implement and demonstrate all existing standards of the Banquet operations, suggesting new standards or procedures as needed
- Ensure that the Food & Beverage team are consistently showcasing professionalism in Member/Guest relations
- Ensure compliance with all Club policies, Health & Safety policies and Food & Beverage procedures and standards
- Report on any unsafe work conditions and complete all required safety training and certifications
- Other duties as required and assigned
Education/Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role in food & beverage or event setting preferred
- Smart Serve certification, Food Safety Level 1 certification
- Intermediate computer skills including MS Word and Excel, e-mail and internet
- Previous experience in a golf club environment is an asset
