The Intake Counsellor is responsible for completing and recording comprehensive client intakes, providing service navigation and program recommendations.
KEY DUTIES - RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts telephone, virtual, or in-person intakes with consenting clients seeking service for Mental Health Services, Addictions Services, and/or Housing and Support Services.
Facilitates CMHAGB’s central intake process with the goal of improving access to Mental Health and Addiction Services in Grey Bruce.
Assists with provision of program information and recommendations to clients requiring mental health, addiction and housing support
Participates in the continuous quality improvement of the central intake and referral processes at CMHAGB and assists with evaluating and modifying policies and procedures.
Maintains a robust knowledge of internal programs and services as well as mental health and addiction services available throughout Grey Bruce
Utilizes compassion, empathy and intuition while performing a client intake
Continuously supports client centered care through empathetic, compassionate, and intuitive questioning during intake appointments.
Employs clinical and social service knowledge to triage and prioritize client entry into the appropriate program or service.
Actively listens and effectively communicates with clients, referral sources, team members, CMHAGB staff, and community partners.
Continuously employs good documentation practices
Consults regularly with front line workers about client referrals and intakes.
Maintains up to date knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and legislation.
Makes decisions related to intake eligibility and services, including outside agency referrals, within guidelines and policies. Seeks consultation from team members and Manager for unusual case presentations.
Hours of work are 37.50 per week. The normal workday is 8 hours, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Working in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions. Independent and high-paced work environment. Working with individuals who have a history of trauma and homelessness Some evening and weekend work may be required.

A competitive hourly wage ranging between $35.95 and $39.67 (5 step grid)
Vacation of 4 weeks to start, 5 weeks at 5 years, 6 weeks at 10 years

What you will bring
A four (4) year degree in Social Sciences or related field with clinical training or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of experience in Mental Health and Addictions services
Thorough understanding of the Mental Health and Addictions sector
Strong awareness of Mental Health and Addictions services, resources and agencies within Grey and Bruce County
Self-disciplined, organized, detail oriented, intuitive, and empathetic.
Extremely strong teamwork, communication, networking, and interpersonal skills
Sound judgement, particularly with respect to high risk or sensitive situations.
Effective decision making and crisis intervention skills
Excellent ability to work well with community partners and professional groups
Maturity, sound judgement and ability to work well under pressure
A valid Canadian driver's license and the use of a reliable personal vehicle
Minimum $2,000,000 third party liability vehicle insurance
A satisfactory police record check including vulnerable sector screening
