The Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival is the largest student and adult participatory festival of its kind in Atlantic Canada. The festival provides a constructive, educational environment that offers individuals, groups, bands, choirs, etc (of all ages), opportunities to demonstrate and showcase their musical talents in either competitive or non-competitive classes.
We are seeking an Executive Director with experience in the not-for-profit sector who can guide the festival in the coming years. Specifically, someone who can maintain the high standards of the festival, maintain strategic relationships and program offerings, but implement improvements to the processes, and maintain or expand our operations to better meet the needs of talented Nova Scotia’s. Salary range $ 35,000.00 - 38,000.00

The Executive Director will be responsible for the planning and presentation of the annual music festival that presents hundreds of remarkable performances by local musicians, many in the early stages of their development.
Under the direction of the Board of Directors of the Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival (NSKMF), the Executive Director (ED) will report directly to the President of the Board. We are looking for an individual dedicated to the encouragement of music education and performance in all disciplines for students of all ages and all levels of ability. The NSKMF is a member of the Federation of Music Festivals of Canada through their membership in the Federation of Music Festivals of Nova Scotia and adheres to the guidelines of this Federation.
This position is largely self directed with flexible hours. The ED will be responsible to fulfil the strategic plans developed by the Board with a primary focus on supporting and promoting the continuing success of HRM’s oldest and longest running music festival while building relationships, negotiating partnerships and engaging with industry partners.
The duties will include but are not limited to:
The efficient day to day running of the Festival office including all administrative duties. The candidate must have excellent computer skills.
Oversee the presentation of a 33 day music festival with daily performances throughout HRM
Update and revise a yearly syllabus of classes
Research and engage adjudicators
Research and negotiate to secure appropriate venues for Festival performances
Fund-raise, including writing grant applications and securing funding from corporate and community sponsors
Manage the Festival database
Recruit, train and schedule volunteers
Schedule Festival classes
A valid driver’s license and a background in music education would be considered an asset.
