National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health (NCCIH)

The National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health (NCCIH), located on the traditional and unceded territory of Lheidli T’enneh First Nation at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), invites applications for the position of Research Associate.
Reporting to the NCCIH Academic Lead, Dr. Terri Aldred, and Research and Operations Manager, Donna Atkinson, this position will support research and knowledge translation activities related to First Nations, Inuit, and Metis public health, including identifying, analyzing, synthesizing, and disseminating scientific, Indigenous and other knowledges to promote and improve the use of evidence in public health decision-making, policy and practice.
The NCCIH is one of six National Collaborating Centres for Public Health (NCCPH) established in 2005 with funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to promote and support the timely use of scientific research and other knowledges in public health practice, programs, and policies. Its mandate is to strengthen public health systems and advocate for health equity for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada through knowledge translation and exchange.
The NCCIH is located at the UNBC main campus in Prince George, British Columbia, however remote (off-site) work in other locations across Canada is an option. First Nations, Inuit, and Metis applicants will receive priority.
This is a one-year-term position, with the possibility of extension based on operational requirements and funding availability.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Identifying, analyzing and synthesizing scientific, Indigenous, and other knowledges for print and web publication including journal articles, book chapters, technical reports, fact sheets, environmental scans, literature reviews, newsletter or web content, and other educational materials or tools;
- Preparing research proposals, grant applications, and research ethics applications
- Providing research support as part of the Centre’s quality assurance and peer review process;
- Planning, delivering, and evaluating workshops, webinars and other education and outreach initiatives;
- Preparing and presenting research at academic conferences and other events
- Representing the Centre on selecting internal and external committees, working groups, and networks assigned by the NCCIH Manager or the Academic Lead;
- Contributing to the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of Centre projects and initiatives; and
- Other research and knowledge translation duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Master’s or PhD in health sciences or related discipline and at least three years of related experience; An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples in Canada
- Experience working with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities or organizations
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
- Proficiency in qualitative research with capabilities in quantitative research and mixed methods;
- Proficiency in computer software applications including MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and online research and communications tools;
- Detail-oriented, proactive and leadership-driven with excellent organization and time management skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team;
- Ability to speak fluently in both official languages or an Indigenous language is considered an asset; and
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours occasionally.
Salary
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $38.00 to $44.00 per hour and the normal starting salary will be $38.00 per hour.

Normal hours of work are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Pacific Time, Monday to Friday.
