Foreman – Heavy Equipment Service

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Foreman, Shop Foreman, or Service Foreman to lead our Heavy Equipment Service Department in Surrey. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will oversee shop operations, supervise a team of Heavy Duty Equipment Technicians, coordinate workflow, and ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
This position is ideal for a certified Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician with strong leadership abilities, excellent customer service skills, and experience in a heavy equipment dealership, construction equipment, agriculture equipment, or industrial equipment environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of Heavy Duty Equipment Technicians, Mechanics, and Apprentices.
- Coordinate daily shop operations, technician scheduling, and workload planning to maximize productivity.
- Ensure quality control and accurate diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and inspection of heavy equipment.
- Mentor, coach, and develop technicians while identifying training and skill development opportunities.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized service shop following company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate professionally with customers, operators, and internal departments regarding repair status, estimates, and technical issues.
- Establish and manage the after-hours on-call field service schedule.
- Open, close, and manage work orders, including warranty claims and documentation.
- Monitor labour efficiency, departmental costs, shop productivity, and profitability.
- Collaborate with the Service Manager, Parts Department, and branch personnel to deliver exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification or equivalent recognized trade certification.
- Previous experience as a Foreman, Lead Hand, Shop Supervisor, or senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrain, and diagnostic equipment.
- Experience in a heavy equipment dealership, equipment rental, mining, forestry, construction, or agricultural equipment environment.
- Familiarity with John Deere, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, Hitachi, Case, or other heavy equipment brands is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with work order management and warranty administration.
- Forklift certification is an asset.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
