About the Role
As a Job Developer, you will work closely with Occupational Therapists, Case Managers, and community partners to support clients in their journey from vocational exploration to sustainable employment. This role combines employer engagement, job matching, and hands-on client support, ensuring individuals are set up for success in the workplace.
Your work will include co-designing customized work trials, preparing clients for interviews, advocating for inclusive hiring, and helping employers adopt trauma-informed onboarding and long-term retention strategies.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with OTs and Case Managers to understand client strengths, goals, and accommodation needs.
- Identify, engage, and build relationships with inclusive employers across the Calgary region.
- Develop and coordinate individualized work trial placements that support skill-building and confidence.
- Facilitate introductions, mock interviews, and roleplay exercises to prepare clients for employer interactions.
- Secure and support transitions into paid employment through job carving, workplace accommodations, and flexible scheduling.
- Provide ongoing check-ins with both clients and employers to ensure integration, address challenges, and promote long-term retention.
- Educate employers on accessibility, accommodations, and inclusive workforce practices through direct engagement and presentations.
- Track and report employer engagement, client placements, and outcomes for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required:
- Diploma or degree in Human Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, Disability Studies, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in job development, employment placement, or supported employment services.
- Demonstrated success engaging employers and placing jobseekers facing complex barriers.
- Strong understanding of disability inclusion, workplace accommodations, and employment equity principles.
- Knowledge of the Calgary labour market and employer trends.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
Preferred:
- Experience working with persons with disabilities or individuals with multiple barriers to employment.
- Familiarity with OT-led vocational programming and trauma-informed approaches.
- Knowledge of funding supports for inclusive hiring (e.g., wage subsidies, assistive technologies).
- Experience delivering employer-facing workshops or presentations.
