Position Summary
The Pharmacy Assistant Program Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to adult learners enrolled in the Pharmacy Assistant program at a private career college. The instructor will teach theoretical and practical components of the curriculum, support student learning and success, and ensure instruction aligns with Alberta industry standards, program outcomes, and regulatory requirements.
This position is ideal for a practicing or experienced pharmacy professional seeking part-time weekend teaching opportunities.
Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
- Deliver Pharmacy Assistant program courses according to the approved curriculum and lesson plans
- Teach subjects including (but not limited to):
- Pharmacy operations and workflow
- Pharmacology fundamentals
- Prescription processing and calculations
- Pharmacy law, ethics, and regulations (Alberta/Canada)
- Customer service and professional communication
- Inventory control and pharmacy software (theory-based)
- Facilitate engaging lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and practical exercises
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diverse adult learners
Student Assessment & Support
- Evaluate student performance through quizzes, exams, assignments, and practical assessments
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students
- Monitor student progress and report academic concerns to administration
- Support students requiring academic assistance or accommodations
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and evaluations
- Ensure instruction meets Private Career College regulations and institutional policies
- Participate in curriculum updates, program reviews, and quality assurance activities
- Attend scheduled staff meetings, instructor training, and professional development sessions (as required)
Required Qualifications, Education & Professional Background
- Pharmacy Assistant Diploma OR equivalent pharmacy-related education
- Minimum 2 years of recent work experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting
- Strong understanding of Canadian pharmacy practices and regulations
Teaching & Communication Skills
- Minimum 1 year of previous teaching as Pharmacy Assistant Program instructor, training, or mentoring experience (adult education preferred)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear, student-friendly manner
Preferred Qualifications
- Pharmacy Technician (an asset)
- Teaching experience in a private career college or vocational institution
- Familiarity with Alberta Private Career College standards and student record requirements
- Experience working with learning management systems (LMS)
Schedule
- Weekends only (Saturday & Sunday)
- Up to 20 hours per week
- Consistent weekly schedule during program delivery periods
