DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture or designate, the Part-Time Early Childhood Educator (Preschool) provides regular support for the day-to-day operations of the City of Terrace Preschool Program. This position works a part-time schedule as assigned to meet program and operational requirements and is covered under the terms and conditions of the CUPE Local 2012 Collective Agreement.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
The main responsibilities of the Early Childhood Educator (Preschool) in the Preschool Program include:

Supervision and Observation: Ensure that children are safe and adequately supervised during their time in the program. Observe children and create pedagogical narrations and written observations for documentation, as well as develop curriculum based on the interests observed.

Develop and Implement: Create and implement a childcare curriculum that supports and promotes the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development and interests of children. Plan and maintain a learning environment that promotes the health, security, and well-being of children.

Provide a Safe and Welcoming Environment: Provide support and guidance to children, fostering a positive and inclusive environment. Encourage social interactions and help children develop positive relationships with their peers.

Nutritional Care: Facilitate snacks or meals provided during the program, ensuring that children receive appropriate nutrition.

Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians regarding each child's progress, activities, and any concerns or issues that may arise.

Maintain a Clean and Organized Space: Ensure all materials and furnishings are safe and age-appropriate, and that all sanitation and cleaning practices are followed.

Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Respond appropriately to any accidents or medical situations that may occur. Ensure that the program environment remains safe by following all required safety protocols and regulations.

Participation: Participate as a team member, supporting other program staff as required, and contribute to staff meetings, training, or mentoring activities when appropriate.

Other Related Duties as Required: Duties may vary depending on program needs and scheduling requirements.
REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE:

Possess an Early Childhood Education Certificate and be in good standing with the BC ECE Registry. (Proof of qualifications, certificates, and a current criminal record check must be provided prior to appointment.)

Ability to comply with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act – Child Care Licensing Regulation.

Availability for a part-time work schedule, with flexibility for varying hours based on operational needs.

Completed Grade 12 education.

Possess a valid Community Care First Aid Certificate.

Minimum of one (1) year of recent and relevant work experience in an early learning or childcare centre, inclusive of 500 hours of work experience performed under the supervision of a Canadian Certified ECE.

Clear Criminal Record Check as per licensing requirements.

Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with children, fellow employees, and the general public.

A BC Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License is considered an asset.
WAGE AND HOURS OF WORK:

Wage: $32.00 per hour, plus any applicable provincial Early Childhood Educator Wage Enhancement (ECE-WE) top-up for eligible hours worked.

Hours of Work: Part-time hours in accordance with the provisions of the CUPE Local 2012 Collective Agreement. Hours may vary based on program and operational requirements.
