The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Collections Specialist I to join our Retail Operations team and play an important role in our continued growth. At GBC, you won’t just fill a role; you’ll help build what’s next. Reporting to the Senior Analyst, Credit Center, the Collections Specialist I is responsible for executing the Bank’s collections and delinquency management processes. This includes developing and implementing strategies specific to collection files from initial collections, through to realization and disposition of defaulted assets. The role is focused on achieving optimal returns for the Bank through a results-driven approach.

- Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $49,180.32 to $66,538.08. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

Position Responsibilities

Take ownership of delinquent accounts (up to 45 days past due) by developing strategic and tactical steps to maximize returns and recoveries in all provinces (excluding QC).

Provide customer solutions to bring accounts up to date.

Escalate potential fraud, third party, or Master Dealer Agreement (MDA) violations to leadership.

Request documentation from dealer partners and/or loan holders as needed.

Maintain accurate documentation of all customer interactions.

Track performance of the arrear’s portfolio, to identify emerging or ongoing trends and adjust collection strategies as necessary to optimize returns.

Ensure compliance with the Bank’s credit policy and recommend changes as necessary to improve collections processes.

Collaborate effectively with internal teams including sales, customer service, and various other departments to ensure a seamless approach to collections.

Engage with delinquent customers professionally and empathetically ensuring they are treated fairly and respectfully, adjusting communication and approaches to achieve optimal outcomes while upholding standards of courtesy and dignity.

What You Bring to the Table
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service experience with a focus on delivering professional and responsive support.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills across phone, SMS, and email channels.

Strong clerical and administrative skills, including experience working with documents, spreadsheets, and databases.
Preferred Qualifications

Post-secondary education in business, finance, management, or a related field.
- Experience in indirect automotive or consumer collections.
- Working knowledge of collections and recovery legislation and industry practices.
