Hamilton Container Terminal Inc. (HCT) is a fast-growing logistics and transportation company specializing in intermodal trucking, container terminal operations, warehousing, and rail logistics solutions. As part of a diversified group of companies operating across logistics, manufacturing, international trade, and industrial real estate, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Full Cycle Accountant to join our finance team.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys a combination of accounts receivable management, collections, full-cycle accounting, and supporting multi-company financial compliance activities.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Full Cycle Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting activities with a strong emphasis on Accounts Receivable, customer collections, cash flow management, and ensuring timely financial reporting and compliance across multiple operating companies within the group.
The successful candidate will be proactive, highly organized, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with operations, sales, and management teams.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable & Collections
- Manage the complete accounts receivable cycle, including invoicing, cash application, and account reconciliations.
- Monitor customer aging reports and proactively follow up on overdue accounts.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with customers to ensure timely collections.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies and customer payment disputes.
- Prepare weekly AR aging reports and provide updates to management regarding collection activities and cash flow forecasts.
- Coordinate with operations and sales teams to resolve outstanding customer issues affecting collections.
Full Cycle Accounting
- Process and record journal entries accurately and timely.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare various account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Assist in variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance.
- Help maintain accurate financial records across multiple group entities.
Compliance & Financial Control Support
- Assist the Financial Controller in ensuring timely completion of:
- HST/GST filings
- Payroll remittances
- WSIB reporting
- Corporate tax support schedules
- Annual audits and external accountant requests
- Other federal and provincial compliance requirements
- Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Participate in improving internal controls and accounting procedures.
Accounts Payable Support
- Provide backup support for accounts payable processing when required.
- Review vendor statements and assist with reconciliation of supplier accounts.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and reporting efficiencies.
- Support implementation of accounting best practices across the group companies.
Other Duties
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as assigned by the Financial Controller and senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on Accounts Receivable and collections experience is required.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, trucking, warehousing, or manufacturing industries is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with customers and successfully manage collections while maintaining positive business relationships.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and financial reconciliations.
- Experience working with multiple legal entities or group companies is an asset.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles and regulatory compliance requirements, including HST, payroll remittances, and month-end close processes.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Pay: $54,310.69-$65,216.06 per year
