We are currently seeking compassionate, skilled, and grounded frontline professionals to join our Community Support Team.
Position Overview
The Supportive Housing Specialist is a frontline housing and community safety role focused on supporting residents in maintaining safe, healthy, and stable housing while helping foster a respectful and secure community environment.
This role combines supportive housing work, crisis response, community engagement, tenancy support, safety monitoring, and relationship-building. Successful candidates will be comfortable balancing compassionate support with clear boundaries, policy enforcement, and community accountability.
Supportive Housing Specialists work directly with residents through regular housing check-ins, supportive interventions, crisis response, conflict resolution, and ongoing engagement using a trauma-informed and person-centered approach. This position also plays an important role in reviewing security concerns, monitoring community safety systems, responding to incidents, and supporting compliance with community expectations and tenancy obligations.
This is an active and highly relational frontline role that requires professionalism, critical thinking, sound judgment, emotional regulation, adaptability, and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Housing Stability & Resident Support
- Conduct regular housing, wellness, and unit check-ins with residents.
- Support residents in maintaining safe, healthy, and sanitary living environments.
- Assist residents in identifying goals, addressing barriers, and maintaining housing stability.
- Connect residents to appropriate internal support and external community resources.
- Provide trauma-informed, compassionate, and respectful support while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Support residents in understanding tenancy obligations, community expectations, and shared living responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate, objective, and timely documentation related to incidents, interventions, and resident interactions.
Community Safety & Operations
- Help maintain a safe, respectful, and stable community environment.
- Review security reports, incident logs, and community safety concerns.
- Monitor and support site access systems, safety procedures, and operational protocols.
- Respond to crises, conflicts, disruptive behaviour, and community concerns using de-escalation and restorative approaches.
- Enforce community rules, safety expectations, and site policies consistently and professionally.
- Observe and address concerns related to unauthorized access, trespassing, safety risks, or community disruptions.
- Collaborate closely with security personnel, housing staff, and leadership regarding resident wellbeing and ongoing safety concerns.
- Participate in after-hours support and on-call rotation as required.
Team Collaboration
- Participate in team meetings, case consultations, and collaborative care planning.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to support continuity of care and coordinated responses.
- Contribute to a workplace culture grounded in accountability, compassion, professionalism, and respect.
Qualifications
Education
Applicants should possess:
- A diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Services, Community Services, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Addictions & Mental Health, or a related field;
OR
- Significant equivalent frontline experience working in supportive housing, outreach, shelters, crisis response, harm reduction, mental health, addictions, or community support environments.
Experience & Core Competencies
We are seeking individuals who:
- Have strong frontline experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations.
- Are comfortable balancing supportive engagement with accountability and boundary-setting.
- Demonstrate strong conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills.
- Have experience working within trauma-informed and harm reduction frameworks.
- Can remain calm, professional, and emotionally regulated during high-pressure situations.
- Understand the importance of confidentiality, documentation, and professional conduct.
- Are capable of making sound decisions related to resident wellbeing and community safety.
- Are comfortable working independently while also functioning as part of a collaborative team.
- Possess strong communication, interpersonal, and observational skills.
- Are flexible and available to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage.
Preferred Assets
The following qualifications are considered strong assets:
- Experience in supportive or transitional housing environments.
- Training in trauma-informed care, restorative practices, harm reduction, non-violent crisis intervention, or suicide intervention.
- Experience reviewing incident reports or working alongside security operations.
- First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, or related certifications.
- Knowledge of Residential Tenancies legislation and housing stabilization practices.
