Job Summary Overview
Shipper/Receiver – Full time, in person
Receives and puts away orders, interacts with delivery drivers providing direction on where goods should be dropped, references delivery invoices to assess and ensure quality of product and assists with proper inventory control. They are responsible for cleanliness, order and neatness of all storage shelving in the kitchen, including but not limited to – dry storage room, walk in cooler and walk in freezer. The shipper/receiver is also responsible for collecting items requested by other locations and delivering them according to the weekly transfer schedule. The shipper/receiver will report directly to the Chef de Cuisine on Main campus and is responsible for reporting any issues regarding intracompany transfers, with items received from vendors, the driving schedule and any changes needed.
Receiving/ Shipping
- Interacts with delivery drivers while receiving order deliveries; directing drivers where product should be placed.
- References delivery invoices to assess and assure the quality and quantity of products being delivered; reporting any discrepancies or shortages to management.
- Put all items received into the appropriate location using the FIFO system to ensure proper rotation of all items; ensuring to date items to indicate when they have been received.
- Assists with organization of the walk in cooler and freezer by downsizing products whenever possible.
Inventory Management
- Accountable for coordinating monthly inventory by distributing count sheets to all departments and locations; executing cooler, freezer and dry storage counts.
- Track product pricing and notify management of any cost changes.
- Responsible for managing the inventory management system, Optimum Control, to keep track of latest pricing of each item, entering monthly and yearly inventory, and entering new recipes for all the locations.
- Gathers intracompany transfers of food and packaging to be delivered to all locations.
Administrative
- Assist with invoice entering in Optimum Control and updating related prices in Optimum Control.
- Enter inventory data for all locations and generate reports for Culinary Director to review.
- Enter all intercompany transfer data and generate reports for Culinary Director to review.
General Information
- Daily – Tidy dry storage room, chemical shelf, walk in cooler, walking freezer. Rotate products in all areas and downsize where necessary.
- Weekly – Sweep and mop dry storage and back hall. Enter invoices focusing on updating prices. Enter transfer data into Optimum to generate reports for Culinary Director at month end. Organize walk in freezer by emptying products from rolling racks into milk crates and ensuring all items are stored correctly.
- Monthly – Print inventory counting sheets from Optimum and co-ordinate with Chef when counting should begin. Ensure inventory numbers are ready for review the Friday following when counts are completed.
Skills
- A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
- You must be able to lift at least 50 lbs of weight (over and over..... and over)
- Must understand proper methods of product rotation and storage (first in, first out and safe food handling practices)
- Familiarity with Windows-based software; Excel, Word, Outlook as well as Google Sheets
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner both verbally and via email.
- Valid Food Handlers certificate is recommended but not required.
Experience
- Experience working in a kitchen, food services or warehouse is preferred.
- Experience interacting with suppliers and delivery drivers is an asset.
- Experience with inventory counting and inventory management software is an asset.
Work Conditions
- Work hours: Monday to Friday, mainly mornings.
- 6 a.m. would be the earliest start time, but the schedule is somewhat flexible.
