Our Chalk River location is looking for a Law Clerk to provide legal and administrative support, draft and review legal documents, coordinate with external counsel and regulators, and contribute to the effective delivery of legal services across the organization on an eighteen (18) month term.
What you will be doing!

Accurately preparing moderately complex and diverse documents such as non-disclosure agreements, procurement and commercial contracts/amendments and other legal agreements and status updates.

Compiling and analyzing moderately complex and diverse documents for filing with various tribunals and regulators, receiving some oversight from Senior Law Clerk and Legal Counsel.

Drafting and preparing various forms and documents for filing with a variety of arbitrators, regulators and tribunals.

Assisting in developing and presenting training, maintaining training material and being able to assist with presenting training materials to CNL staff with some direction and guidance from Senior Law Clerk or Legal Counsel.

Reviewing and maintaining a suite of documentation and authoring new documents as directed.

Interacting often with Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI), with minimal guidance from Senior Law Clerk and Legal Counsel, to assist with the drafting and preparation of various legal related forms, letters and contract documents.

Working closely with CNL client groups to identify issues; providing advice and guidance to team and management on legal best practices, legal contracts and documents.

Performing assessments on processes to identify gaps or inefficiencies; proposing solutions and assisting with implementation of new or revised processes with minimal guidance from Senior Law Clerk or Legal Counsel.

Working with clients to resolve identified issues by suggesting solutions, providing guidance/support for implementing solutions, if required, and performing follow-up activities to ensure solution is effective and the issue has been resolved, with minimal guidance from Senior Law Clerk and Legal Counsel.

Independently reviewing and analyzing software license agreements for appropriateness with minimal guidance from Senior Law Clerk and Legal Counsel; submission of indemnity requests to AECL for approval.

What we are looking for:

Education

Post-secondary education in a legal or technical related field.

Paralegal/Law Clerk Certificate or degree program, or related experience.

Experience
-
4-7+ years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
-
Experience in areas of corporate commercial law with a good understanding of contracting principles in a commercial and procurement environment.
-
Experience in areas of labour & employment law with a good understanding of federal sector employment law and arbitration landscape is an asset.
-
Experience and capability of working in a highly regulated area, including familiarity with reading and applying legislative instruments.

Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work smoothly and effectively with customers, technical staff, colleagues and all levels of management.

Possesses initiative to resolve problems and expedite resources, work plans or other appropriate actions.

Ability to work in a team environment, maintain a clear focus on team goals, and establish a good rapport with groups and individuals of many diverse professions is required.

Must be self-motivated, possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interact with peers, other departments, regulators and senior management.

Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to analyze information, draw conclusions and make recommendations quickly and effectively with minimal direction and assistance of Senior Law Clerk or Legal Counsel.

Ability to handle multiple assignments and manage work schedule to meet shifting priorities.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft suite programs, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote for the purposes of creating reports, entering and mining data, producing spreadsheets and presentations and creating training programs and presentations related but not limited to office functions and legal processes and areas of law.

Should have broad knowledge of corporate policies and procedures, systems and organizational structure in order to understand how Legal Services functional support area activities impact on and integrate with other functional areas.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.

Ability to self-manage, flexible and willing to work extra hours, as required.
