Our client, a well-established Vancouver-based litigation law firm, is seeking an experienced Legal Accountant to join its team. The firm is recognized for its expertise in complex litigation matters and offers a collaborative, professional environment where employees are valued and supported.
This is a hands-on bookkeeping position with a strong emphasis on law firm trust accounting and compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, including trust accounting, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing support, and maintaining accurate financial records.
A key component of this role involves ensuring trust accounting records are accurate, properly documented, and maintained in accordance with applicable Law Society of British Columbia requirements.

Manage the firm's day-to-day bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, deposits, cheques, EFTs, general ledger transactions, and client payments.

Administer trust accounting processes, including trust receipts, disbursements, transfers, client trust ledgers, and monthly trust reconciliations.

Investigate and resolve accounting and trust discrepancies, including negative client balances, outstanding trust items, posting errors, and potential shortages.

Review trust transfers and payments to ensure sufficient funds, appropriate authorization, and supporting documentation.

Prepare monthly financial statements, budget comparison reports, and CRA remittances.

Generate and review accounts receivable reports, assist with collections, and respond to inquiries regarding client balances, retainers, and payments.

Maintain accurate accounting records within the firm's accounting system and ensure transactions are correctly allocated to clients and matters.

Support lawyers and administrative staff with accounting-related inquiries and reporting requirements.

Minimum 3 years of accounting experience within a law firm environment.

Strong knowledge of trust accounting principles and Law Society trust compliance requirements.

Experience with legal accounting software such as ProLaw, PCLaw, CosmoLex, or similar platforms.

Strong bookkeeping, reconciliation, and Microsoft Excel skills.

Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.

Ability to identify, investigate, and appropriately escalate accounting discrepancies.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Accounting, bookkeeping, or related education/certification is considered an asset; relevant legal accounting experience is equally valued.
