Job Summary
We are seeking 2 VERY skilled and dependable concrete carpenters in EDMONTON, AB specializing in manholes builds, erects, and aligns wooden or system forms for underground utility structures, including manholes, catch basins, and vaults. (4-6 month project). Responsibilities include measuring, cutting, installing reinforcement, placing concrete, and stripping forms. This role requires proficiency with power tools, blueprint reading, and stamina for working in varied, often seasonal, municipal construction environments. Wage depending on ticketed or non-ticketed and if you have the experience of what the job entails will be taken into consideration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formwork Construction: Build, erect, and align forms for cast-in-place manholes, catch basins, and underground service boxes. Slabs, bases, base wall, forming & framing. Using fillcrete and other materials.
- Preparation: Measure, cut, and shape materials (wood, steel, or aluminum) for concrete forms, ensuring precise alignment and stability.
- Installation & Rebar: Install rebar, wire mesh, and iron materials to reinforce concrete structures before pouring.
- Concrete Handling: Direct or assist in the pouring, placing, and consolidation of concrete into forms, ensuring proper placement.
- Stripping & Repair: Remove concrete forms (stripping) after concrete is set and repair or smooth surfaces as necessary.
- Safety Adherence: Strictly follow occupational health and safety regulations (OH&S) related to concrete construction and confined spaces. Indeed +6
Requirements:
- Experience: Generally 5-10 years of experience in concrete carpentry, specifically in heavy civil or commercial projects.
- Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, site plans, and surveying stakes to establish grades.
- Tools: Proficient in using hand and power tools (e.g., circular saws, drills, grinders, reciprocating saws).
- TOOLS to bring: Carpenters are expected to bring their own hand tools and basic power tools, everything else will be supplied.
- Physical Ability: High physical stamina to lift heavy materials and work in harsh weather conditions.
- MUST HAVE: Own Vehicle & Valid Alberta driver’s license
- SAFETY PPE: Head Protection: Type #2 Hard Hat, CSA-approved hard hats, with new CCSC standards increasingly requiring integrated chin straps for improved safety.
- Foot Protection: CSA-approved steel-toed boots (Ohm-rated).
- High-Visibility Gear: High-visibility vests or clothing ensuring 360-degree visibility.
- Eye Protection: Safety glasses with side shields, meeting ANSI Z87 standards.
- Clothing: Long-sleeved shirts and long pants are required. Arc-flash rated clothing is mandatory for specific electrical tasks.
- STRICT SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory Specialized PPE: Fall protection (harnesses) required for working at heights, with elevated standards.
- SAFETY TICKETS: MANDATORY: MUST HAVE current/Valid: Confined Space Entry & Monitor, Fall Protection with Elevated Work Platform, H2S Alive, will have to take the PCL site orientation, 1st AID CSTS-2020, WHIMIS.
