Canada After School Group is a fast-growing year-round learning centre for kids in JK through to Grade 12. It offers a variety of subjects including English, Math, French, Art, etc.
Note: This is an onsite position and all teachers are required to teach in-person class on our campus. Teachers are welcome to teach on both of our campuses - North York campus and Markham campus.
The Role:
Preference will be given to instructors who can work a minimum of 3 to 5 days per week during our after-school (Monday to Friday 4pm - 8pm) and weekend centre hours(Saturdays and Sundays 9am-6pm). Instructors must be available to teach in-person from our centre location.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Public Speaking / TED Teacher & English Tutor to inspire and guide students in developing exceptional communication, presentation, and English language skills. The ideal candidate will be passionate about public speaking, TED-style talks, persuasive communication, and English instruction, with a proven ability to mentor students to excel in competitions, public forums, and language proficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement engaging public speaking, TED-style presentation, and English language programs that align with the center’s educational goals.
- Conduct interactive workshops and training sessions to enhance students’ confidence, storytelling, vocal delivery, body language, persuasive techniques, and English fluency (grammar, vocabulary, writing, and comprehension).
- Provide personalized coaching to help students refine their speeches, presentations, and English communication skills for competitions, TEDx events, or academic success.
- Organize mock speaking events, and English language activities to prepare students for real-world communication scenarios.
- Collaborate with center administrators, teachers, and parents to promote the value of public speaking and English education.
- Stay updated on TED trends, speechwriting techniques, presentation technologies, and ESL/EFL teaching methodologies to ensure students receive cutting-edge training.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression in both public speaking and English.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Communication, Education, English, TESOL, or a related field).
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching public speaking AND/OR English (MUST).
- Experience coaching TED-style talks, TEDx events, or English language learners (MUST).
- Background in speech competitions (e.g., Toastmasters, debate, Model UN, TEDx speakers) or English tutoring/ESL instruction is a strong plus.
- Strong knowledge of speechwriting, rhetorical strategies, presentation techniques, and English language pedagogy.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple student projects and events.
- Passionate about empowering students to become confident, compelling speakers, and proficient English communicators.
