Math Contest TeacherJob Summary
Lorvale Academy is seeking an experienced and passionate Math Contest Teacher to prepare students for prestigious mathematics competitions, including AMC 8, AMC 10, AMC 12, AIME, and the University of Waterloo Mathematics Contests (Gauss, Pascal, Cayley, Fermat, Euclid, and CSMC).
The ideal candidate will have proven experience teaching competitive mathematics and guiding students through contest preparation. This position requires strong mathematical knowledge, excellent instructional skills, and familiarity with North American math competition curricula and problem-solving methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver structured lessons for mathematics competitions, including:
- AMC 8
- AMC 10
- AMC 12
- AIME preparation
- Waterloo Contests (Gauss, Pascal, Cayley, Fermat, Euclid, CSMC)
- Teach advanced problem-solving techniques in:
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Number Theory
- Counting & Probability
- Combinatorics
- Mathematical Reasoning
- Create contest-focused lesson plans, homework assignments, and mock examinations.
- Analyze student performance and provide individualized feedback and improvement plans.
- Prepare students for high-level competition performance, including qualification for AIME and distinction awards in Waterloo contests.
- Track student progress and communicate regularly with parents and academic advisors.
- Stay updated on current contest trends, question styles, and competition syllabus changes.
- Collaborate with the academic team to develop and improve Lorvale's Math Contest Program.
Required QualificationsEssential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching mathematics competitions.
- Demonstrated experience teaching one or more of the following:
- AMC 8
- AMC 10
- AMC 12
- AIME
- Waterloo Mathematics Contests
- Strong understanding of contest mathematics topics beyond the regular Ontario curriculum.
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly to students from Grades 4–12.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with one or more of the following will be strongly preferred:
- Previous participation in AMC, AIME, USAMO, Waterloo contests, Math Olympiads, or similar competitions.
- Proven track record of coaching students who have:
- Qualified for AIME
- Achieved Honor Roll or Distinction in Waterloo contests
- Received Top 5%, Top 10%, or Perfect Scores in major competitions
- Experience teaching advanced enrichment programs or gifted students.
- OCT certification (Ontario Certified Teacher).
- Experience teaching both in-person and online classes.

Compensation
Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications and contest teaching experience.
Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour
