What You’ll Do
As Controller, you will lead WCMRC’s accounting operations and financial reporting functions, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial information to support organizational decision-making. You will oversee the day-to-day management of the accounting team and provide leadership in financial controls, reporting, budgeting, banking, invoicing, and audit activities.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the accounting team, ensuring all capital and operational financial reporting meets the needs of the organization, its Board of Directors, government, and lenders.
- Oversee the preparation and approval of corporate financial reports, including financial statements, related notes and appendices, and the monthly and annual close processes.
- Establish, implement, and monitor internal controls, finance policies, and procedures to safeguard corporate assets, ensure financial integrity, and support efficient and effective operations.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and oversight of annual budgeting processes, departmental variance reporting, corporate tax remittances and filings, and the approval of disbursements, banking, rates, and billing activities.
- Manage the annual external audit process and work with internal stakeholders to identify financial reporting requirements, implement effective solutions, and continuously improve processes and systems.
- Provide leadership to the department through goal setting, performance management, succession planning, staff development, and participation in recruitment and selection activities.
- Act as Finance Section Chief during spill responses on a rotational basis with the Director, Finance.
What You Bring
As a seasoned finance leader with strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset, you bring a combination of leadership capability, operational excellence, and attention to detail in a regulated and mission-driven environment.
You will bring:
- Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
- CPA designation required
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a management role
- Demonstrated working knowledge of ASPE
- Strong command of financial systems, including oversight, optimization, and integration of ERP and reporting tools
- Well-developed time management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects
- Willingness to participate in spill response duties, training, and travel as required
Preferred
- Experience in a multi-site or geographically distributed organization
- Experience in a regulated or operational environment
- Experience supporting audit, reporting, and financial controls in a complex organization
- Incident Command System (ICS) training or emergency response experience is an asset
