Position Summary:
Professor Claude Bhérer’s Lab needs Research Assistant 2 position for supporting a collaborative research project on complex diseases through genetic epidemiology analyses.
Contract Period: June 22, 2026, to October 23, 2026.
Responsibilities include:
Conducting analyses such as polygenic risk score (PRS) construction and Mendelian randomization to investigate genetic contributions to disease risk and outcomes.
The role includes developing and implementing scripts and scalable analytical workflows to support data processing and research activities.
The Research Assistant 2 will collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, contribute to data interpretation, and support the generation of high-quality and reproducible research outputs.
May write theoretical or methodological reports, papers or articles related to research activities.
Responsible for the quality and results of their own work.
May provide technical guidance and training to research staff, including Research Assistants 1, Undergraduate/Graduate Student Research Assistants and Technicians, in the execution of tasks related to research projects.
Performs various administrative tasks related to the project.
Qualifications:
MSc in Human Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Background in human genetics, genetic epidemiology, and statistical genetics.
Experience analyzing large-scale sequencing and genotyping datasets.
Familiarity with methods such as polygenic risk score (PRS) construction, Mendelian randomization, and association analyses.
Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, Bash) and experience developing reproducible workflows.
Experience working in collaborative research environments and handling large datasets.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
Excellent communication skills and ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects.
Language requirement:
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.
The position is covered by the Association of McGill University Research Employees (AMURE) collective agreement.
