Construction Repair Technician (Drywall & Renovations)
Pay: $28.00–$36.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
Job description
First Response is an award-winning Ottawa-based disaster restoration and specialty cleaning company. We help homeowners recover from water damage, mould, fire damage, and other property emergencies. Once the restoration work is complete, we also perform repairs to return homes to pre-loss condition.
We’re looking for a skilled, dependable Construction Repair Technician (Drywall & Renovations) to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants steady, year-round work.
Candidates must already be located in the Ottawa region and be legally authorized to work in Canada.
What You’ll Do
As a Construction Repair Technician, you’ll work on residential and commercial properties performing repairs after restoration projects. Every day is different, and you’ll be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
- Drywall installation, repairs, mudding, taping, sanding, and finishing
- Framing and basic carpentry
- Interior repairs following water, fire, and mould restoration
- Painting, trim installation, and finishing work
- Minor renovations and general handyman tasks
- Demolition and removal of damaged building materials
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment
- Driving company box trucks and vans to job sites
- Completing dump runs and material pickups
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Working alongside restoration technicians and project managers to complete projects on schedule

Preferred Experience
- Drywall installation and repairs
- Mudding, taping, sanding, and finishing
- Framing and carpentry
- Basic renovations
- Demolition
- Painting and finishing work
- Restoration experience (asset)
- Experience operating power tools safely
- Experience driving box trucks (asset)
Qualifications
- Valid G Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record
- Ability to safely drive company vehicles, including box trucks
- Comfortable using hand and power tools
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional attitude with excellent customer service
- Reliable and punctual
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs regularly
- Comfortable working in PPE, including respirators when required
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting of 5–50 lbs
- Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working overhead
- Working in residential and commercial construction environments
- Ability to access crawlspaces, attics, and confined areas when required
Assets
- Restoration industry experience
- IICRC Certifications
- Drywall finishing experience
- Framing experience
- Carpentry or renovation background
- Experience operating trailers or towing equipment
- Forklift, Working at Heights, WHMIS, or other construction-related certifications
