Job Summary
This position requires approximately 10 hours of instruction and prep time per week. Daily classes will be delivered online Monday – Friday during the morning. The classes will range from 8-15 adult learners. They involve the use of a wide variety of software to facilitate this. Opportunities to increase hours may exist depending on the qualifications and interest of the successful applicant. This position requires Alberta Teacher Certification and cannot be offered to a candidate who does not possess it or a current teacher certification from another province to demonstrate eligibility to receive Alberta Certification.
Duties
- Provide (or demonstrate eligibility for) Alberta Teacher Certification. Candidates without Canadian Teacher Certification will not be considered.
- Adapt and deliver comprehensive online lessons in various science subjects aligned with provincial curriculum standards. While a solid curriculum and delivery model exists (lesson plans, PowerPoints, assignments and tests), teachers are expected to adapt to the needs of the students in their classes.
- Utilize multimedia tools to create an interactive learning environment that stimulates student engagement.
- Assess student progress and provide provide timely feedback to guide improvement.
- Maintain clear, positive communication with students regarding academic performance.
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles.
Experience
- Prior classroom or tutoring experience in high school sciences demonstrating effective teaching methods
- Strong knowledge of biology and chemistry, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Experience with online teaching platforms and virtual classroom management tools preferred
- Excellent communication skills to motivate students and foster a positive, interactive classroom environment
Pay: $40.00-$48.00 per hour
