Position Summary
The Human Resources and Payroll position is responsible for the full scope of HR and payroll functions across Wild Rows Pump & Compression Ltd.'s eight branch locations in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Operating as the sole HR practitioner within a corporate structure, this role handles recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll processing, compliance, performance management, policy development, and employee relations. The incumbent works closely with the Owner/President, Operations Managers, Branch Managers, and Corporate Sales management to support technicians and office staff operating under the Alberta Employment Standards Code and the Saskatchewan Employment Act.
Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll Administration
- Process monthly payroll cycle using EasyPay payroll software, including mid-month advances and final pay runs
- Calculate, verify, and submit payroll for all employees across all branches
- Prepare and issue Records of Employment (ROEs) through ROE Web (Service Canada) as required
- Manage year-end payroll processes including T4 preparation and CRA remittances
- Maintain accurate payroll records and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Track vacation accruals, wage advances, and deductions in accordance with company policy and provincial employment standards legislation
Benefits Administration
- Administer the Canada Life group benefits plan, including enrollment, changes, terminations, and employee inquiries
- Liaise with Canada Life on claims, renewals, and billing reconciliation
- Support employees in understanding and navigating their benefits coverage
- Coordinate disability claims and return-to-work planning with Operations and branch management
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for corporate and branch positions, including job posting, screening, interview coordination, reference checks, and offer preparation
- Draft and maintain job descriptions in alignment with WRPC's standards and applicable employment standards legislation
- Prepare offer letters and new hire documentation, ensuring provincial compliance
- Lead company-wide new hire orientation and support branch-level onboarding
- Track probationary periods and support managers through mid-probation and end-of-probation reviews
Policy and Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and communicate HR policies and the employee handbook in compliance with the Alberta Employment Standards Code and Saskatchewan Employment Act
- Monitor legislative changes and update policies accordingly
- Ensure HR recordkeeping and data privacy practices meet applicable provincial standards (PIPA – Alberta; PIPEDA, where applicable)
- Support safety compliance with ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Avetta, and 8am Solutions as required
Performance and Employee Relations
- Support managers in conducting performance reviews, documenting performance concerns, and implementing performance improvement plans
- Provide guidance on progressive discipline, termination processes, and severance considerations
- Handle sensitive employee relations matters with professionalism and discretion
- Support apprentices through their apprenticeship program, assisting with registration, tracking hours and program progress
- Conduct exit interviews and track turnover data
Health, Safety, and WCB
- Coordinate with the Safety/Corporate Admin on Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities and WCB claims administration
- Support return-to-work coordination in partnership with Operations and branch management
- Maintain awareness of provincial OHS requirements and assist in tracking safety compliance
- Prepare WCB yearly reports as needed
HR Systems and Reporting
- Maintain the employee master list and HR records using internal systems, including SyteLine (ERP) and Office 365
- Generate payroll and HR reports using EasyPay's report generator and other tools as required
- Track HR metrics including headcount, turnover, and time-to-fill
- Support fleet, mobile device, and company card administration as required (GeoTab, Bell, US Bank)
QualificationsEducation
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
- CPHR designation or active pursuit is an asset
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a generalist or solo-practitioner capacity
- Hands-on payroll processing experience is required; experience with EasyPay or a comparable payroll platform is an asset
- Experience administering group benefits, including Canada Life or equivalent, is preferred
- Experience working in oil and gas, energy services, or industrial services environments is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta and Saskatchewan employment standards legislation

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in payroll and recordkeeping
- Effective communicator with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
- Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with SyteLine is an asset
- Familiarity with compliance platforms such as ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, or Avetta is an asset
Working Conditions
- Based at the Lloydminster, AB corporate office; occasional travel to branch locations may be required
- Standard office hours with occasional flexibility required during payroll processing periods or peak HR cycles
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
