Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Activity Director to lead engaging and meaningful activities for our senior residents. The ideal candidate will have experience working with seniors in a retirement setting with a strong focus on enhancing quality of life through creative programming. This role offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of seniors, individuals with disabilities. The Activity Director will coordinate and implement a variety of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities tailored to residents’ needs and interests, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a managment team.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a diverse range of activities designed to promote socialization, mental stimulation, physical activity, and emotional well-being.
- Develop activity calendars and events that align with residents’ preferences, abilities, and care plans
- Collaborate with nursing staff and caregivers to ensure activities support individual health goals and safety protocols.
- Engage people in group events such as games, arts and crafts, music therapy, outings, and special celebrations.
- Monitor residents’ participation and provide personalized attention to those with dementia or disabilities to ensure inclusion and comfort.
- Maintain accurate records of activity participation and resident feedback for reporting purposes.
- Foster a warm, welcoming environment that encourages social interaction and community involvement.
- Stay informed about best practices in senior care, dementia care, and working with individuals with disabilities to continually improve programming.
- Some weekend and evening
Requirements
- A community college diploma in recreation/activation, psychology, sociology or gerontology or simialr field
- Experience working in assisted living facilities preferred.
- Prior experience in senior care or caregiving roles is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of dementia care techniques and working with individuals with disabilities is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, staff, and community partners.
- Creativity in developing engaging activities tailored to diverse resident needs.
- Compassionate attitude with patience, empathy, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team committed to providing exceptional resident care. This role provides an enriching opportunity to enhance the lives of seniors through engaging programming while fostering a supportive community environment.
- Familiarity with community resources an asset.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word for Windows or other word processors or programs as needed an asset.
