We are seeking a professional and experienced Security Guard Specialist to provide a highly visible, advanced level of security service at busy downtown location.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and members of the public. This role requires strong judgment, professionalism, integrity, and the ability to respond effectively to routine, emergency, and security-related situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and maintain daily logbooks, including daily activities, unusual occurrences, equipment issuance, and security-related incidents.
- Provide security guard services by monitoring security systems, conducting patrols, and maintaining a visible presence throughout the site.
- Monitor assigned areas and respond to routine calls, emergencies, security concerns, and law enforcement-related matters.
- Identify, investigate, and respond to potential security breaches, fire and safety hazards, prohibited entry, theft, utility interruptions, and other site concerns.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering public inquiries, assisting visitors and staff, and supporting safe movement throughout the site.
- Conduct guard tours along designated patrol routes.
- Notify the appropriate authorities in the event of security, fire, health, or safety emergencies.
- Activate fire alarm and life safety systems when required and assist with evacuation procedures.
- Escort police, fire, ambulance, or other designated authorities to emergency locations.
- Screen unauthorized individuals and respond appropriately to trespassing, criminal activity, or policy breaches in accordance with applicable legislation and site procedures.
- Make lawful arrests when required and surrender individuals to police as soon as possible.
- Receive and document complaints, conduct investigations, prepare incident reports, and complete follow-up investigations as required.
- Perform open-up and lock-down procedures.
- Conduct bomb threat searches and inspect/test security and life safety equipment.
- Carry out emergency response duties in accordance with site emergency response procedures.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of two years of security-related experience, preferably in a tactical or high-profile environment.
- Candidates with a diploma or degree from a Canadian institution in Police Foundations, Investigations, Community Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field may be considered with a minimum of one year of security-related experience.
- Valid Ontario Security Guard License is required.
- Strong knowledge of the Criminal Code, Trespass to Property Act, and proper arrest procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong active listening, observation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency, conflict, or high-pressure situations.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, preferably up to 12 hours.
- Steel-toe shoes or boots are mandatory.
