We are a progressive and fast-paced seafood processing company based in Surrey, British Columbia, committed to operational excellence, food safety, product quality, and continuous improvement. We are currently seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Production Mechanic to join our team and support the efficient operation of our production facility.
Position Summary
The Production Mechanic is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production equipment within the plant. This role involves troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, installing, and optimizing processing machinery to minimize downtime and maximize operational performance.
The successful candidate will work closely with Production and Maintenance teams to ensure equipment operates within safety, food quality, and operational standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Production Equipment Operations & Maintenance
- Ensure the efficient and reliable operation of all production and processing equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance and ensure machinery operates within established operational specifications and maximum capacity requirements.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment malfunctions, irregularities, and mechanical breakdowns in a timely manner.
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize recurring issues.
- Perform routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance on machinery and processing equipment.
- Read, interpret, and apply equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, schematics, and work orders to complete repairs and maintenance activities.
- Assist with the installation, dismantling, assembly, and proper storage of processing equipment as required.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance logs and records for repairs, inspections, and servicing activities.
Safety, Compliance & Food Processing Standards
- Ensure all equipment operates in compliance with Company policies, HACCP standards, WorkSafeBC regulations, Food Safe requirements, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety, food safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct maintenance work safely while working around, under, above, and within machinery and production equipment.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Support
- Analyze machine performance and collaborate with Production and Maintenance teams to improve operational efficiencies and equipment reliability.
- Develop a strong understanding of all processing machinery, equipment functions, and plant operations.
- Proactively learn existing and newly introduced equipment, staying ahead of operational and maintenance requirements.
- Support production teams by providing guidance and training on the proper, efficient, and best-practice use of equipment.
- Assist with special projects, equipment upgrades, and other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting abilities.
- Experience using mechanical tools, equipment, and maintenance instruments safely and effectively.
- Working knowledge of production machinery, mechanical systems, and equipment repair practices.
- Welding experience considered an asset.
- Ability to diagnose issues, solve problems independently, and work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong initiative, self-motivation, and a proactive mindset toward learning and continuous improvement.
- Strong English communication skills, including reading, writing, and verbal comprehension.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work changing start times, rotating shifts, weekends, and operational schedules as required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely work in, around, under, and above machinery and equipment without restrictions.
- Completion of WHMIS training required.
Experience & Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a seafood processing, food manufacturing, or industrial production environment (preferred).
- Experience working in a seafood or food processing plant considered a strong asset.
- OFA Level 2 certification considered an asset.
- Forklift certification considered an asset.
Pay: $19.00-$23.00 per hour
