Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. This role is essential in providing high-quality care and support to individuals in need, particularly seniors and those with specific health challenges. The ideal candidate will have experience in home care settings and a strong understanding of medical terminology, as well as a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our clients.
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering a positive environment.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for any changes in condition.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and preferences.
- Assist with mobility and transportation to appointments or social activities.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment for clients by performing light housekeeping tasks.
- Support clients with dementia care, ensuring their safety and comfort while engaging them in meaningful activities.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals for case management and ensure continuity of care.
- Document client progress and report any concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 months of formal experience working in home support or long-term care setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medication administration is beneficial.
- Familiarity with dementia care practices is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective interaction with clients and families.
- Ability to prepare meals that meet specific dietary requirements.
- Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others improve their quality of life.
- Must be able to pass background checks as required by company policies.
Certifications/Qualifications
- BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry (required)
- First Aid/CPR certification (required)
- FoodSafe certification (required)
- Dementia training (preferred)
- Naloxone training (preferred)
