Warehouse Associate / Order-Picker Job Description
Position Summary
Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the Warehouse Associate - Order Picker is responsible for the preparation, fulfillment, and accuracy of online and store orders, while supporting overall warehouse operations. We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Warehouse Associate - Order Picker / Forklift Driver to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring that our warehouse operates smoothly and that our customers receive accurate, timely shipments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the full order cycle, including receiving, checking, processing, picking, inventory management, put-aways, and pick line replenishment, in addition to operating a forklift safely and efficiently.
Position Responsibilities
Order Receiving, Checking & Processing
- Receive and review all incoming customer and store orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Match incoming shipments to purchase orders, verifying product codes, descriptions, quantities, and conditions of goods.
- Inspect and check products for damage, discrepancies, or expired items; report and document issues immediately.
- Accurately process orders into the warehouse management system (WMS) and prepare them for picking and fulfillment.
Order Picking & Fulfillment
- Select items accurately by following First-In-First-Out (FIFO) and First-Expiry-First-Out (FEFO) standards.
- Verify product name, barcode, and price before fulfilling an order.
- Check expiry dates and remove outdated or damaged products from circulation.
- Stage completed orders in designated areas for packing, delivery, or customer pick-up.
- Assist in loading/unloading customer or delivery vehicles as required.
Inventory Management & Controls
- Perform regular cycle counts and assist in full inventory audits to maintain accurate stock records.
- Report shortages, low stock levels, or overstock situations promptly to the Warehouse Manager.
- Monitor stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure product freshness.
- Support accurate documentation of stock adjustments and transfers.
Product Put-Aways & Pick Line Replenishment
- Safely transport and put away products from receiving to assigned storage locations using a forklift, pallet jack, or manual equipment.
- Ensure all items are stored neatly, securely, and in designated warehouse locations.
- Replenish pick lines proactively to ensure pickers always have stock readily available.
- Maintain organized and clearly labeled storage and picking areas for efficient workflow.
Customer Service & Communication
- Provide professional, polite, and prompt assistance to store associates, customers, or delivery drivers when on the floor or over the phone.
- Handle questions and concerns in an informative, solution-focused manner.
- Communicate grocery needs, adjustments, shortages, and problems promptly to the Warehouse Manager or Store Manager (as applicable).
General Warehouse Duties
- Operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment safely in compliance with company and OHSA regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of all available products and their warehouse locations.
- Adhere strictly to all operational policies, health and safety procedures, and food-handling regulations.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards at all times.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, including assisting in other departments when required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in retail, grocery, warehouse, or customer service is an asset.
- Forklift license/certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong work ethic, initiative, and reliability.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Ability to stand, bend, squat, and lift repeatedly for extended periods.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
