We are looking for a Manager, Human Resources, to join our talented team and fill a full-time vacancy. Please note this vacancy has an updated title and responsibilities as noted below.
The role is a remote position based in Canada, with work performed from anywhere within the country.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Manager, Human Resources, is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Canadian Kennel Club’s human resource functions. This role ensures the organization attracts, develops, and retains talented employees while fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture. The Manager, Human Resources, serves as a strategic advisor to leadership and oversees employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, policy development, training, compliance, and organizational development.
As a national not-for profit organization dedicated to the advancement, preservation, and promotion of purebred dogs in Canada, the Canadian Kennel Club seeks an HR professional who can balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Human Resources Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement HR strategies that support CKC’s mission, vision, values, and business objectives.
- Partner with senior leadership to provide guidance on organizational planning, workforce development, and change management initiatives.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and employee engagement.
- Monitor HR trends and recommend best practices to strengthen organizational effectiveness.
Recruitment & Talent Management
- Lead full-cycle recruitment activities, include job postings, candidate sourcing, interviewing, selection, onboarding and orientation.
- Develop talent acquisition strategies to attract qualified candidates across Canada.
- Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
- Maintain effective onboarding programs to ensure successful employee integration.
Employee Relations
- Act as the primary resource for employee and management issues, providing advice and coaching on workplace concerns.
- Investigate employee complaints and workplace issues fairly and confidentially.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and promote positive workplace relationships.
- Support employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs.
Performance Management & Development
- Administer performance management processes and tools.
- Coach managers on employee performance, goal setting, feedback, and development planning.
- Identify training and professional development opportunities for employees and managers.
- Coordinate learning and development programs that support organizational growth.
Compensation, Benefits & Payroll Support
- Administer employee compensation and benefits programs.
- Conduct market research and benchmarking to ensure competitive compensation practices.
- Liaise with benefits providers and eternal vendors.
- Collaborate with Finance to support payroll-related tasks, providing direction on entitlements based on CKC policies and applicable legislation.
- Assist with payroll when needed.
Policy Development & Compliance
- Develop, review, and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook materials.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial employment standards, human rights legislation, occupational health and safety requirements, privacy regulations, and other applicable legislation.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.
- Support workplace accommodations and return-to-work programs.
Health, Safety & Wellness
- Promote employee wellness, mental health, and workplace safety initiatives.
- Support compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
- Participate in risk management activities related to the workforce.
- Coordinate health and wellness programs and resources for employees.
HR Administration & Reporting
- Maintain HR information systems and employee records.
- Prepare HR metrics and reports for leadership.
- Manage HR budgets and vendor relationships, as applicable.
- Support audits and organizational reporting requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Post secondary degree/diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) or equivalent designation preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive human resources experience, including experience in a management role.
- Experience developing and implementing HR policies and programs.
- Experience managing employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and employment law matters.
- Experience in a not-for-profit, association, membership-based, or national organization is considered an asset.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and coaching skills.

- Proven ability to build relationships with employees and leaders at all levels.
- Experience with HRIS systems. Microsoft 365, and HR reporting tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to work productively remotely. Employees located within a commutable radius operate under a hybrid work model, combining remote work with on-site work at our head office. Remote employees may be required in-office from time to time based on business needs.
- Must be comfortable working in an environment with dogs.
- Occasional travel within Canada for meetings, events, conferences, or organizational initiatives.
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of discretion.
Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
