Position Summary
Gobind Sarvar School is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead the school's employee relations and human resources compliance functions. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that all human resources practices align with employment legislation, organizational policies, and the school's mission and values.
This position serves as the primary advisor to school leaders on employee relations matters, workplace investigations, performance management, and employment legislation. The successful candidate will be a trusted partner who can balance organizational priorities with fairness, professionalism, and sound judgment.
While the role includes oversight of recruitment and general HR operations, its primary focus is ensuring legal compliance, mitigating organizational risk, and supporting a respectful and engaged workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic HR advice and guidance to school leadership on employee relations and human resources matters.
- Lead workplace investigations involving employee concerns, complaints, harassment, discrimination, misconduct, and policy violations.
- Manage employee relations issues through coaching, conflict resolution, mediation, and progressive discipline.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment standards, occupational health and safety legislation, human rights legislation, privacy requirements, and other relevant employment laws.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Support managers with performance management, employee development, and succession planning.
- Coordinate recruitment, selection, onboarding, and orientation for teaching and support staff.
- Maintain confidential employee records and oversee HR administration.
- Partner with Finance to support payroll and benefits administration.
- Coordinate mandatory training and professional development related to compliance and workplace practices.
- Monitor legislative changes and recommend policy updates to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Prepare HR reports and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
- Foster a workplace culture built on respect, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, or eligibility to obtain one, is considered an asset.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive human resources experience, with significant experience in employee relations and HR compliance.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee relations matters.
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation, occupational health and safety, human rights legislation, and HR best practices.
- Experience in the education sector, public sector, or a unionized environment is considered an asset.
