Maintenance Technician
Location: Astro Hill – Iqaluit, Nunavut

Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician at Astro Hill is responsible for supporting the ongoing maintenance, repair, and improvement of residential and commercial properties in Iqaluit, NU. This role requires strong plumbing knowledge and hands-on experience, along with general facilities maintenance skills and the ability to work effectively in a northern climate.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable performing a mix of planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance work in a remote environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlumbing & Building Systems (Primary Focus)
- Perform plumbing repairs and maintenance, including fixtures, piping, drains, and water systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to leaks, blockages, water pressure, and general plumbing systems
- Support preventative maintenance programs related to plumbing infrastructure
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining building systems, including glycol heating and mechanical systems
- Ensure all plumbing work meets safety and quality standards
Property & Facilities Maintenance
- Perform routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance across residential and commercial buildings
- Troubleshoot and complete repairs related to plumbing (primary focus), electrical (basic), HVAC support, fixtures, windows, and doors
- Prepare vacant units for occupancy, including repairs and inspections
- Respond to maintenance requests and prioritize tasks based on urgency and safety impact
Northern Climate & Safety Awareness
- Apply best practices for maintenance in a northern and cold-weather climate, including winterization and seasonal preparation
- Monitor building conditions related to freezing temperatures, snow load, ice buildup, and freeze-thaw impacts
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools, PPE, and adherence to workplace safety standards
Inspections & Documentation
- Conduct routine property and unit inspections
- Identify and report maintenance concerns, deficiencies, or risks
- Maintain documentation of work completed, materials used, and follow-up actions
Teamwork & Service
- Work collaboratively with operations, facilities, and property management teams
- Communicate professionally with tenants and internal stakeholders regarding maintenance issues and timelines
- Participate in on-call or emergency maintenance rotation as required
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong plumbing skills and troubleshooting ability
- Solid general maintenance knowledge across building systems
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, and work indoors and outdoors in all seasons
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Comfortable working in cold and changing weather conditions
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in plumbing and general building maintenance is required
- Property and facilities maintenance experience is required
- A recognized trades certificate (plumbing preferred) is a strong asset
- Experience working in remote, northern, or cold-climate environments is an asset
- Valid driver’s license preferred
- Ability to obtain required safety certifications as needed
