We are looking for a highly organized, mechanically knowledgeable Heavy Equipment Maintenance Coordinator who is responsible for preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, work orders, parts, contractors, and maintenance records.
The successful candidate will take ownership of equipment readiness, respond quickly to breakdowns, and work closely with operators, mechanics, supervisors, vendors, and management to reduce downtime and prevent repeat failures.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and control preventive maintenance for all mobile and stationary equipment.
- Coordinate servicing and repairs for loaders, excavators, forklifts, skid steers, crushers, screens, conveyors, concrete-production equipment, and company vehicles.
- Review daily inspection reports and act immediately on defects and safety concerns.
- Prioritize repairs based on safety, production needs, and equipment availability.
- Create, assign, track, and close maintenance work orders.
- Coordinate internal mechanics and external service providers.
- Manage emergency breakdowns and communicate repair timelines.
- Track service intervals, equipment hours, downtime, warranties, and maintenance costs.
- Source parts, obtain quotes, maintain critical spare-parts inventory, and verify invoices.
- Investigate recurring failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Ensure defective equipment is locked or tagged out until repairs are completed and verified.
- Maintain accurate equipment files, inspection records, repair histories, and maintenance reports.
- Support maintenance budgeting and equipment repair-or-replacement decisions.
- Enforce site safety requirements for employees, contractors, and service providers.
Qualifications
- At least three years of maintenance coordination experience in heavy industry, construction, aggregates, transportation, mining, or manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of heavy-duty equipment and industrial machinery.
- Proven experience with preventive maintenance, work orders, parts, vendors, and repair scheduling.
- Strong organizational, troubleshooting, communication, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage urgent breakdowns and competing operational priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance or fleet-management software.
- Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, Commercial Transport Mechanic, Millwright, or related certification is a strong asset.
- Experience in precast concrete, crushing, or aggregate recycling is an asset.
Working Conditions
This position requires regular work in an active industrial yard and production environment involving heavy equipment, dust, noise, outdoor conditions, and changing priorities. Occasional early-morning, evening, or weekend availability may be required for urgent breakdowns.
