The Opportunity
We have a regular full-time position available for a Peer Facilitator to work within CMHA’s Youth Services, Huddle Broadway Program. Huddle provides youth (ages 12-29) with access to mental and physical health services, addiction support, financial and employment assistance, Indigenous cultural programming, mental health counseling, community connections, and educational programs to help them reach their goals and potential.
The Position
The Peer Facilitator welcomes youth to Huddle Broadway, supports program intake, and works alongside youth to identify goals and service needs through learning plans. Using listening-based peer support and lived experience, the role fosters hope, empowerment, and recovery while co-facilitating groups, teaching life skills, and supporting access to integrated health and community services. The hourly rate for this position falls within Band 3 of the Collective Agreement, ranging from $21.97 to $27.65 per hour, based on a 35-hour workweek. Hours may be adjusted to include evenings and weekends when necessary.
The Qualifications
Required
- High school graduation with preference for a diploma, certificate, or coursework in social work, education or psychology.
- One year experience in a community-based social service setting (mental health, addiction, housing).
- Demonstrated experience working with children, youth, and families.
- Lived experience with mental health or substance use/addictions recovery, with willingness to share experiences.
- Knowledge of local mental health, addictions, and community service systems.
- Understanding of youth, mental health, substance use, recovery, and harm reduction.
- Passion for working with youth and understanding of effective youth engagement.
- Strong communication, engagement, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Empathy and peer support abilities.
- Provided criminal record check with vulnerable sector search and both an adult and child abuse registry check, with results deemed satisfactory to the CMHA.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Proven history of dependable performance and conduct.
Preferred
- Experience facilitating workshops, courses, or programs.
- Experience working with people living with disabilities.
- Training in trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strengths-based approaches.
- Knowledge of Indigenous populations, colonization impacts, residential schools, and traditional healing practices.
- Understanding of settlement services and newcomer youth experiences.
- Awareness of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and community services.
- Peer Support Certification or willingness to pursue certification.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable, Manitoba registered vehicle.
