Kowarsky & Company is a Vancouver downtown boutique law firm with a robust and wide-ranging litigation practice that includes work on behalf of institutional clients in creditors remedies and collections. We are looking for an individual with five years of paralegal experience in BC. Work experiences with the the CRA or debt collection is an asset.
Job Summary
This role will involve (and we will provide training in) starting legal actions in respect of money debt, obtaining judgment, post-judgment collection, such as negotiation of repayment plans, assessment of financial situation, and garnishment.

Responsibilities
- Preparing court documents for Small Claims and Supreme Court of British Columbia, including pleadings, affidavits, lists of documents, post-judgment enforcement-related chambers applications, garnishing orders, summons to a payment hearing, and other enforcement-related court documents.
- Occasionally preparing documents in bankruptcy court on behalf of unsecured creditors.
- Learning and using federal government required software (Atrium) for correspondence, file access, organization, and timekeeping.
- Effective oral and written communication with clients, debtors, and third parties involved in the collections procedure.
- Managing case calendars and deadlines to ensure timely filings and compliance with the rules of all levels of court, and in particular, the Small Claims Rules and Supreme Court Civil Rules.
Qualifications
- 5 years or more of experience as a paralegal in British Columbia.
- Experience working for the Canada Revenue Agency or debt collection is an asset.
- Willing and able to obtain and maintain Protected B Security Status (we will assist).
- Technological proficiency, including in programs such as MS Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
- Attention to detail and ability to work professionally under pressure and tight deadlines on your own and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning and professional customer service.
- Solid sense of ethics and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Reside in the Province of British Columbia, Canada.
Salary Expectation: Starting from $60,000 per year commensurate with experience.
