Role Overview
We are looking for an autonomous, forward-thinking, and systems-driven Store Manager to take full ownership of our retail environment. If you are someone who thrives on running an operation without hand-holding, loves building efficient systems from the ground up, and knows how to lead a team with empathy and enthusiasm, this role is for you.
As the Store Manager, you will operate with a high level of independence. You will be responsible for leading our team of Mission Ambassadors, streamlining store operations, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring the store hits its sales and community goals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a small team of Mission Ambassadors, fostering a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven work environment.
- Manage staff scheduling, performance tracking, and ongoing training on vendor stories and sales techniques.
- Act as the primary point of resolution for day-to-day team and customer challenges.
Operations & Systems Creation
- Design, implement, and optimize store operational systems (e.g., inventory tracking, restocking workflows, vendor communication, and daily opening/closing procedures) to ensure the store runs flawlessly.
- Manage day-to-day business operations independently, treating the store with an entrepreneurial ownership mindset.
- Oversee cash management, POS systems, and reporting on retail metrics.
Vendor Support & Merchandising
- Serve as the main liaison for our 90+ vendors, ensuring their feedback is heard and their inventory needs are communicated seamlessly.
- Oversee store visual merchandising, coordinating floor layouts and seasonal refreshes to ensure all vendor spaces look exceptional and cohesive.
Sales & Community Engagement
- Drive store sales goals by coaching the team on customer engagement, storytelling, and add-on sales.
- Maintain the warm, welcoming, and community-centric atmosphere that defines The Local.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven Leadership: Experience as a Retail Store Manager, Assistant Manager, or a similar operational leadership role.
- Systems Thinker: A track record of taking initiative, creating checklists, building workflows, and organizing spaces independently.
- Autonomous & Proactive: You don't wait for instructions. You see a gap or an inefficiency, and you build a solution for it.
- People-First Mentality: Exceptional communication skills with a natural ability to connect with staff, customers, and local makers.
