We are looking The Registered Dietitian who is a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
Fixing Long Term Care Act (FLTCA) regulations and standards of nutrition and hydration care. The Dietitian ensures provision of nutrition care in accordance with government legislation and in coordination with the Nutrition Manager. The Dietitian reports to the Executive Director.
ROLE:
The Dietitian is responsible for the following
- Promote optimal nutrition care for all residents of the Long-Term Care (LTC) home, ensuring services are in place to provide this care.
- Approve the menu according to nutrition, variety, and quality of menu options on at least an annual basis and/or when permanent changes are made.
- Provide written verification to Administrator that menu meets the Dietary Reference for residents, including calories, protein, fibre, and fluids, as well as other nutrients.
- Follow up on written referrals from clinical team members.
- Complete an initial nutrition assessment and nutrition plan of care for every resident.
- Assess nutrition status, complete Resident Assessment Protocol (RAP) and develop or update nutrition plans of care for all residents on admission, according to the The Resident Assessment Instrument/Minimum Data Set (RAI/MDS) process and timelines.
- Identify residents’ nutrition and hydration risk levels according to the tool currently in use.
- Identify residents for whom follow-up can be appropriately delegated to the Dietary Service Manager.
- Assess nutrition status, completion of RAPs and update nutrition plans of care, at a minimum quarterly for residents, using the schedule developed by RAI Coordinator.
- Plan and monitor therapeutic diets, dietary restrictions, and provision of nutritional supplements according to the assessed needs of residents.
- Develop menus that meet the specifications for those residents who cannot meet their nutrition requirements through the planned menu cycle.
- Ensure that meals, nourishments, and beverages are provided to support residents’ optimal nutrition status and to ensure that needs are being met.
- Oversee the nutrition component of the home’s enteral feeding program.
- Participate in and make recommendations at interdisciplinary care conferences or assist the Dietary Services Manager with their participation in the conference.
- Provide a minimum of 30 minutes per resident per month to spend on clinical and nutrition care duties as per Ontario LTC Home regulations.
- Participate as a key member of the home’s care teams when invited, such as skin/wound care, bowel management, dysphagia, restorative feeding, and weight management.
- Participate on the Home’s Quality Improvement Team
- Participate in the annual Medication Administration review meeting.
- Participate in other appropriate interdisciplinary committees when invited, such as professional advisory, and best practices committee.
- Other services may include staff education/training, family meetings, etc. as time allows.
- Other duties may include: swallowing assessments, monitoring resident dining room(s), restorative dining, completion of audits related to Nutritional Care and Dietary Services, and staff education.

Qualifications
- Completed university and approved dietetic internship program and passed Regulatory Examination
- Current professional registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
- Membership with Dietitians of Canada (DC) and DC Gerontology Network preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of geriatric nutrition care in Long-Term Care setting.
- Thorough knowledge of Ontario government Long Term Care legislation.
Pay: From $45.00 per hour
