Our New Maintenance Specialist:
The Maintenance Specialist is a high-impact, deeply hands-on role responsible for maximizing plant uptime, equipment reliability, and overall facility integrity across both production shifts. This role owns the preventative and corrective maintenance for 60+ pieces of industrial production equipment (including CNC press brakes, fabrication machinery, and most critically, two 4kW Amada fiber lasers), as well as comprehensive facility assets including plumbing, electrical networks, and the forklift fleet.
Reporting directly to the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Maintenance Specialist will operate with no direct reports but will work in tight tactical alignment with the Manufacturing Engineer, Industrial Engineer, and Production teams to eliminate operational waste and minimize downtime. A core immediate objective of this position is to bridge a technical gap by designing, recommending, or implementing a digital maintenance tracking framework or software system from the ground up.
What you will do in the role:

Hands-On Diagnostics, Repair & Self-Reliance

First-Line Resolution: Serve as the immediate, on-the-floor technical responder to all machinery and facility disruptions; independently diagnose and execute repairs directly wherever possible.

Escalation Control: Exhaust internal technical troubleshooting options before coordinating or deploying external OEM technicians (Amada, Trumpf, Safan, etc.), minimizing unnecessary service expenditure.

Total Facility Scope: Take full technical ownership of non-machinery facility maintenance, executing or supervising plumbing repairs, physical infrastructure fixes, and routing routine servicing for the forklift fleet.

Maintenance Systems & Digital Infrastructure

Software Implementation: Architect, recommend, and deploy a comprehensive digital maintenance tracking platform or structured framework from scratch to transition the plant away from manual processes.

TPM Ownership: Drive the plant’s Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program, tracking operator checklists and managing critical service intervals (e.g., 2,000 / 6,000 / 12,000-hour laser service thresholds).

Data-Driven Analysis: Utilize Excel or software analytics to record running costs, component failure frequencies, and downtime metrics to feed information directly into operations management data streams.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead formal Root Cause Analysis activities for major breakdowns and chronic equipment issues, developing and implementing permanent corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Cross-Functional Alignment & CI Integration

Engineering Partnerships: Collaborate closely with the Manufacturing Engineer and Industrial Engineer to analyze chronic equipment bottlenecks, adjust station layouts, and optimize mechanical flows.

CI Initiative Support: Actively support the broader Continuous Improvement team as an extended resource on specialized plant projects, layout updates, and lean manufacturing events.

Production Sync: Keep production supervisors, shift leads, and operators fully aligned on planned maintenance schedules, projected downtime, and technical safety requirements via communication channels.

Urgency & Asset Management

Emergency Availability: Maintain a round-the-clock (24/7) operational readiness state, responding swiftly to off-shift machine failures to safeguard production output targets.

Asset Lifecycle Log: Update and maintain the plant's official fixed asset log alongside equipment acquisition, modification, or decommissioning.

Financial Accountability: Verify maintenance-related vendor activities, maintain and monitor critical parts inventories, and approve associated AP invoices for management signing.

Safety, Ergonomics & Compliance

Identify ergonomic risks and recommend practical solutions in tooling, workstations, and material handling

Conduct risk assessments and machine safety evaluations, support H&S inspections, and champion a clean, organized workspace

Maintain and audit the site Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program to ensure full regulatory compliance, keeping all machine-specific procedures accurate and readily accessible to the maintenance team

Participate in audits and support the integration of CI with safety, quality, and ISO programs

Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity

Develop contingency plans for critical equipment failures.

Maintain emergency response procedures for utility outages and infrastructure failures.

Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

What you bring to the role:

Technical diploma, trade certification (Industrial Mechanics/Millwright, Electrical), or equivalent extensive hands-on industrial maintenance experience

Proven experience troubleshooting and directly repairing industrial sheet metal fabrication equipment (e.g., laser cutters, CNC press brakes, routers)

Demonstrated capability in diagnosing broader facility issues, including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and powered material handling equipment (forklifts)

Strong computer literacy and data aptitude; experience structuring data tracking templates (Excel) or implementing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven track record of effectively collaborating with floor operators, team leads, and cross-functional managers

Unwavering sense of urgency and the flexibility to remain available on-call 24/7 to handle critical machinery or facilities breakdowns

Pay: $80,000 - $90,000
