About the Role
We're looking for a Technical Client Coordinator with hands-on structural steel detailing experience who can step into a client-facing role. You'll work directly with clients (fabricators, engineers, general contractors) to review drawings, discuss detailing questions, and make small revisions directly, reducing turnaround time and improving client communication. You'll also act as the technical liaison between our clients and our detailing team. Connection design and engineering sign-off remain with our engineering vendors, this role is focused on detailing, drawing review, and client communication.
This is not a pure drafting role and not a pure account management role. It's a hybrid position for someone who already knows how to read and work in steel detailing software and is comfortable discussing technical drawings directly with clients.
What You'll Do
- Open, review, and interpret structural steel detailing drawings and models (shop drawings, erection drawings, connection details) in client meetings and calls
- Field client questions/change requests and determine what can be resolved directly vs. what needs to be routed to the detailing team
- Make small, direct revisions to drawings/models (dimension changes, note updates, minor connection adjustments) where appropriate
- Translate client feedback into clear, unambiguous instructions for the detailing team when larger changes are needed
- Attend client meetings (in-person and virtual) as the technical point of contact
- Review completed work for quality/accuracy before it goes back to clients
- Help build and maintain a "change request" process to speed up turnaround on minor revisions
Requirements Experience
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in structural steel detailing or a closely related drafting/coordination role
- Prior experience interpreting shop drawings, erection drawings, and connection details (no independent connection design required, that stays with our engineering vendors)
- Comfortable communicating directly with clients (engineers, fabricators, GCs), verbally and in writing
- Experience working with or alongside offshore/outsourced technical teams is an asset
Software Skills (priority requirement)
- Tekla Structures and/or SDS2 required, proficiency in one is a must, both is a strong asset
- Bluebeam Revu (or similar PDF markup tool) for reviewing and marking up drawings with clients
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for correspondence, tracking change requests, and reporting
- AutoCAD (2D drafting/markup) is a plus
- Advance Steel experience is a plus but not required
- Familiarity with model viewers (Trimble Connect, Tekla Model Viewer, Navisworks, or similar) is a plus
Other Requirements
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Must be located in Calgary, Alberta and able to work full-time from our office (no remote/hybrid for this role)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain technical detail in plain language to non-technical clients
- Detail-oriented with strong QA/QC habits
- Comfortable working across time zones with a global technical team (occasional early morning coordination calls)
Nice to Have
- Background in structural engineering technologist (CET/EIT) or steel fabrication/erection
- Prior experience in a client-facing or project coordination role within AEC/construction
- General familiarity with CSA/AISC standards (helpful for context in client conversations, not required for design work)
