THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Pool Supervisor to join a progressive municipal recreation organization in Alberta. The Pool Supervisor provides leadership for the daily operation of a public aquatic facility. This position is responsible for overseeing aquatic services, staff leadership and development, operational excellence, safety and risk management, and exceptional customer service while fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for patrons of all ages.

Working collaboratively across the organization, they will identify opportunities to enhance services, optimize schedules, and improve operational effectiveness and the overall patron experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of aquatic staff by fostering a positive, accountable, and customer-focused workplace culture.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training, performance development, and ongoing staff coaching.
- Promote collaboration, employee engagement, and continuous learning.
Operations & Service Delivery
- Oversee daily aquatic operations, including programs, public swims, lessons, rentals, and related activities.
- Ensure programs and services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established service standards.
- Address customer concerns professionally while supporting an exceptional patron experience.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Promote a culture of safety by supporting emergency preparedness, aquatic safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate staff certifications, training, safety inspections, incident reporting, and emergency response readiness.
- Identify operational risks and work collaboratively to implement timely solutions.
Program Planning & Community Engagement
- Plan, coordinate, evaluate, and enhance aquatic services to meet evolving community needs.
- Monitor participation trends and customer feedback to identify opportunities for service improvements.
- Support community engagement initiatives, aquatic education, and public awareness programs.
Administration & Operational Support
- Assist with budget monitoring, purchasing, inventory management, and operational reporting.
- Maintain accurate program, staffing, and service records to support planning and decision-making.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of education, certifications, and practical leadership experience, including:
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in a municipal or community aquatic environment, including staff supervision, scheduling, training, and team leadership.
- Demonstrated experience delivering safe, customer-focused aquatic services while leading daily operations.
Education & Professional Certifications
- Diploma in Recreation Administration, Sport and Recreation Management, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related discipline.
- Current National Lifeguard Certification.
- Current Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C/AED.
- Current Swim for Life Instructor certification.
- AARFP Pool Operator Level 2.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Lifeguard Instructor certification.
- Lifesaving Instructor certification.
- Instructor Trainer certification.
- Experience using recreation management, scheduling, or incident reporting systems.
- Experience supporting aquatic program development, community engagement, participation growth, and operational reporting.
