Northern Haven Support Society provides Emergency Shelter, Support and Education to those impacted by domestic abuse and is currently recruiting Casual Crisis Intervention Workers to join the team at our Women’s Emergency Shelter located in Slave Lake, AB.
Qualifications include diploma in social work or related human services field relevant to family violence or currently enrolled in such diploma program and/or life experience working, in a supportive role, with women and children in crisis and:
- First Aid and CPR training or willing to be trained
- knowledge of community agencies
- ability to perform manual tasks when necessary
- works well as part of a team
- good communication skills, both verbal and written
- flexible schedule—able to work evenings, nights and weekends when required
- able to maintain confidentiality, takes an oath of confidentiality
- provide a vulnerable persons check
- experience working with those impacted by domestic abuse an asset
Responsibilities Include:
- ensure the safety and security of the shelter and the clients by adhering to and enforcing shelter guidelines, policies and procedures
- answer shelter’s crisis line, screen potential clients seeking admission to shelter
- perform client intakes into and discharges from the shelter.
- support shelter clients and undertake advocacy on their behalf when necessary
- assist in carrying out a client’s service plan while she is in the shelter
- complete effective written communication including using team communication book appropriately, completing client contact notes and logging phone calls.
- maintain client and shelter confidentiality
- always maintain professional boundaries with clients
