MCON Products is local, and family owned, industrial manufacturing facility that was established in 1989 in Ottawa (Carp), Ontario to provide the fast-growing market with high quality Precast Concrete products on time and at a competitive price. Our precast products include circular and elliptical concrete pipes, circular and box maintenance holes, catch basin, box culverts, oil grit separators and gravity retaining wall systems.
Overview:
Reporting to the area supervisor and plant supervisor, this position will focus on ensuring sufficient raw materials are available to production, while operating the computerized batch plant system to delivery concrete to designated areas. You are also responsible for general housekeeping and other shared duties in and around the facility. Safe work culture is encouraged.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor the concrete batch plant to produce concrete mixes in accordance with approved mix designs and production schedules
- Control batching operations using computerized batching systems to ensure accurate proportions of cement, aggregates, water, and admixtures
- Verify materials and adjust mix parameters based on moisture content, weather conditions, and quality control requirements
- Perform routine inspections of the batch plant, silos, conveyors, mixers, and related equipment
- Identify, troubleshoot, and report mechanical or operational issues to minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate production records, batch tickets, and inventory logs
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies
- Perform housekeeping and basic preventive maintenance to keep the plant clean and operational
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical or vocational training is an advantage)
- Forklift certified
- Good understanding of concrete principles
- Understanding of workplace safety practices and environmental regulations
- Computer literate
- ACI certified or willing to obtain
- Able to multi-task (receiving deliveries and supplying production facility)
- Time and material management (ordering aggregates and cementitious materials in a timely manner)
- Good communication skills (need to communicate with multiple departments)
- Willing to work overtime as needed (weekends or to finish required projects)
- Flexible on shift start time (potential for evening work)
- Good understanding of the importance of LOTO
Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience operating a batch plant (concrete, asphalt, or similar) preferred
- Familiarity with computerized batching systems and industrial control panels
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial environment and handle physical demands of the role
- Experience with cranes and forklifts is an asset
- Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, and noisy environment
- Ability to work on a team or independently without supervision and meet deadlines
- Ability to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
- Job requires person to work in different settings that could require you to work while bending, crouching, kneeling, and crawling
- Ability to prioritize tasks, follow schedules, and follow specified policies/procedures
- Self-starter, with excellent work ethic
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Maintain a professional attitude, especially when handling stressful situations
- Leadership skills would be considered an asset

Compensation:
- Hourly – $27.95-32.00 based on experience (+ group medical benefits, pension, vacation pay) - Unionized, permanent, full-time, 44 hours/week, Monday-Friday, day shift
