Elevate your engineering career by bridging the gap between R&D and scale-up production. We are seeking a detail-oriented Intermediate Development Engineer to design, implement, and optimize the high-precision machinery that powers the next generation of our electrochromic window technology.
The successful candidate will solve technical problems daily by collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, operations and manufacturing. You will be embedded within the team to identify their needs and translate them into actionable solutions; driving continuous improvement, ensuring product quality, and reliability. Your expertise in engineering, problem-solving, and experimental design will be essential in advancing our product and manufacturing development as Miru industrializes our process.
You will promote a culture of safety, organization, and cleanliness to ensure the safe operation of the Miru facilities by adhering to all workplace safety and standard operating procedures and identifying and reporting issues and hazards.
Responsibilities:
- Design, procure, implement, and commission new manufacturing and testing equipment (OEM or custom), considering factors such as safety, precision, ergonomics, cost-benefit, and scale-up feasibility
- Own the end-to-end design cycle for technical projects. From Stakeholder engagement, concept through functional design, rapid prototyping, testing, to commissioning.
- Develop and maintain detailed and organized documentation of all equipment designs, experiments, and results; commissioning checklists; FMEA reports; hazardous operation reports, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new and existing equipment
- Analyze existing equipment function and effectiveness and solve problems and implement changes to improve manufacturing quality and throughput
- Write project plans and be fully responsible for end-to-end execution of projects, including scope, schedule and budget
- Collaborate effectively with the R&D, materials, testing, facilities, and integration teams, sharing knowledge, insights, and progress updates regularly
- Routinely report progress to various departments and stakeholders via engineering documents, slide decks and/or short, efficient meetings
Considerations:
- This position requires full-time, in-office presence at our Olympic Village locations.
- Flexibility to travel to our Finland plant.
Qualifications:
- Relevant degree or diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Integrated, Mechatronics or Materials Engineering, with minimum 4 years work- experience
- Registered EIT with EGBC
- 2-4 years experience and proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks required; AutoCAD and PDM experience preferred)
- Exceptional design skills with documented project portfolio preferred
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather and interpret complex data, draw actionable conclusions, and implement changes
- Proven experience in conducting FMEA or similar risk analysis within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Track record of contributing to multi-discipline engineering teams
- Experience with programming and data analysis tools such as, Python an asset
- Flexibility to travel to international operational sites for consecutive weeks as dictated by project needs.
- High regard for safety, and experience working around chemicals
- Familiarity with electrochromic materials and devices (advantageous but not mandatory)
- Experience in a manufacturing, fabrication or testing environment

- Experience disassembling equipment and comfort independently troubleshooting and solving problems
- Technically proficient - working background and hobbies include design-oriented projects ( 3D printing, machining, woodworking, metalworking, electronics, maintenance, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate and present technical concepts to cross-functional teams
- Detail-oriented, self-starter, organized, and able to work independently with accountability to deliver results within a strict deadline schedule
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Comfort working in a fast-paced culture where creativity and communication are critical
- Experience working proactively and autonomously
- Ability to manage multiple projects on a timely basis

Compensation:
The posted range for this position is $84,500 - $100,000 representing the expected starting base salary for candidates from developing proficiency in the role through to fully proficient. In addition to base salary, you will be eligible for our bonus program, stock options, 4+ paid weeks off/year and extended health benefits after 3 months of service.
