Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and innovative Product Engineer to join our automotive team. The Product Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, development, validation, and launch of products for OEM and Tier 1 customers. This role works closely with cross-functional teams including process engineering, manufacturing, quality, and sales to ensure products meet customer specifications, quality standards, and cost objectives.
The ideal candidate will have technical problem-solving skills, experience with automotive product development processes, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include product development support, engineering changes, product improvement initiatives, customer communication, and continuous improvement activities to drive product performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Review customer RFQ packages to evaluate technical feasibility and support project planning.
- Perform engineering calculations related to DC motors, gearbox ratios, and efficiency performance. Experience with KISSsoft is an asset.
- Coordinate project timelines, milestones, and deliverables while providing regular status updates to customers and management.
- Support communication between local and global engineering teams by sharing technical, industry, and warranty-related information.
- Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings for new product designs and applications.
- Develop validation documentation including DVP&Rs in accordance with customer and internal standards.
- Participate in APQP activities and collaborate with OEM and Tier 1 customers throughout product development.
- Support corrective action and continuous improvement activities including 5D/8D investigations.
- Prepare prototype documentation such as control plans, tracking sheets, and bill of materials.
- Identify opportunities to improve product cost, quality, reliability, and functionality.
- Work closely with sales, quality, and production teams to support product requirements and successful launches.
- Role requires travel, estimated at up to 25%
Education & Experience
- Post Secondary Education (3-year diploma or higher) in an Engineering discipline (Mechatronic, Electrical, Mechanical)
- Minimum of 4 years of demonstrated experience in automotive engineering in a product design capacity
- Eligibility for certification by recognized professional organization (PEO, OACETT, etc.)
- Experience with IATF 16949 focused Product Development Processes
- Experience with interpretation and implementation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and by extension ISO GPS.
- Experience with 3D model and 2D drawing generation in Solidworks is preferred, consideration will be given to experience in any of the major CAD platforms (Creo, CATIA, NX)
- Experience with automotive quality requirements such as APQP, PPAP, DFMEA/DRBFM, etc. is required
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of mechatronic concepts is preferred, including knowledge of systems integration for hardware and software
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, machining is required
- Experience developing and executing automotive test plans is an asset (GMW3172, Ford CETP, CS.00056, etc.)
- Experience developing mechatronic systems within the automotive V-Model is an asset
- Proven performance in continuous improvement activities; strong skills in troubleshooting and problem solving
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) is preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; German considered an asset.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged sitting, with regular opportunities to change positions (e.g., standing, stretching, use of height-adjustable desks).
- Occasional standing, walking, or moving within office and manufacturing areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving materials or equipment (office supplies, documents, components, or tools), typically up to 10–25 lbs depending on task.
- Occasional crouching, kneeling, bending, or stooping to access machinery, components, or work surfaces.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for fine motor tasks, including assembly, typing, or tool operation.
- Occasional operation of machinery or equipment requiring hand/arm coordination.
- Sustained visual attention and concentration required for both computer-based and hands-on tasks.
- Ability to maintain focus and perform detailed tasks for extended periods.
- Occasional exposure to varying temperatures, noise, or vibration on the manufacturing floor.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures at all times.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety policies and procedures.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Report hazards, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Use equipment, machinery, and tools safely and do not bypass safety devices.
- Follow all machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures where applicable.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment (good housekeeping).
- Participate in required safety training and meetings.
- Follow all ESD requirements and wear CSA-approved footwear.
- Adhere to emergency procedures and report incidents promptly.
