Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Quality Control Supervisor to lead the quality assurance function for our precast manufacturing team in Sturgeon County, AB. This role is responsible for overseeing the quality control program for precast concrete staircase products, from raw material intake through final inspection and shipping. The Quality Control Supervisor leads and mentors the QC team, ensures consistent application of testing and inspection standards, and works closely with production, engineering, and management to drive continuous improvement in product quality. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical concrete knowledge who also enjoys leading people and improving processes.
Responsibilities
- Train new and existing staff on quality testing procedures, inspection criteria, and documentation standards.
- Conduct performance check-ins with QC team members and provide coaching to strengthen technical skills and consistency.
- Act as the primary point of escalation for quality issues identified on the plant floor.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures, inspection checklists, and testing protocols for precast staircase production.
- Oversee concrete quality testing (temperature, air, slump) on fresh mixes and finished precast products, ensuring testing is performed accurately and consistently across shifts.
- Review and approve material property evaluations for use in precast concrete production.
- Monitor pours and finished staircase units to confirm compliance with customer specifications, structural requirements, and aesthetic standards.
- Maintain and audit quality documentation, inspection records, and test data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and traceability.
- Identify and address dimensional discrepancies, surface defects, or finishing issues on staircase products before they reach the customer.
- Partner with the production team to balance daily output targets with quality requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to labourers, finishers, and production staff on quality standards and best practices.
- Support hands-on inspection and, when required, concrete finishing work on treads, risers, soffits, and exposed surfaces to maintain team capacity and standards.
- Liaise with project managers, engineering, plant staff, and suppliers regarding product quality, specifications, and any deviations.
- Communicate quality performance, trends, and improvement initiatives to plant management on a regular basis.
- Represent the QC department during customer inquiries, audits, or site visits related to product quality.
- Champion the company's safety program, including leading by example in safety meetings, hazard identification, and reporting.
- Ensure the QC team adheres to Alberta OHS regulations and internal safety policies at all times.
- Ensure all required PPE is worn and safety protocols are followed within the QC and finishing areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in precast concrete manufacturing, concrete finishing, or a related concrete production environment is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with concrete quality testing procedures including slump, air, and temperature testing.
- Experience with materials testing of concrete, aggregate, or related products is an advantage.
- Valid drivers license and clean drivers abstract.
- Must be capable of completing physical tasks of up to 50lbs in weight.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and product specifications.
- Civil engineering technology diploma or related education is preferred.

Hours of Work
- This position typically works Monday through Friday 7am - 5pm. However, deviations from this schedule may be required based on the needs of the business.
- Overtime, evenings, and weekends may be required to support operations from time to time, especially during the busy construction season.
Work Environment
This position primarily works in a plant environment and sometimes outdoors. PPE is required at all times while working at the plant including long sleeves, long pants, reflective stripes, and CSA approved steel toed boots. This position will work outdoors and may be exposed to the elements.
Physical Demands
The position is physical in nature and requires bending, crawling, crouching, and standing for long periods of time. Materials are heavy and cumbersome. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis.
