Rice Contracting Ltd. is a heavy civil and site-services contractor operating a large fleet of excavators, dozers, loaders, and on-road trucks across Southern Ontario.
Position Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Diesel / Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of heavy construction equipment and commercial vehicles. The successful candidate will work out of our shop with occasional field service calls to active job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, drivetrains, and electrical systems on heavy equipment
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and service inspections on excavators, dozers, loaders, and trucks
- Carry out field service repairs at active job sites as required
- Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and OEM service manuals
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts usage logs
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental policies and lockout/tagout procedures
- Keep the shop, tools, and service vehicles clean and in good working order
Qualifications
- Licensed Truck and Coach Technician (310T) or Heavy Equipment Technician (310J/421A) preferred; experienced apprentices considered
- 3+ years of hands-on diesel/heavy equipment repair experience
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel fuel systems
- Own set of hand tools
- Valid Ontario driver's licence (DZ an asset)
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in shop and outdoor conditions
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Pay: $30.00 to $40.00 per hour
Work Location: In person - Hamilton, ON, with occasional field service travel
