Overview
Perfect for Grade 11 students or Grade 12 graduates with interest in child care or special needs support. We are seeking enthusiastic and caring Junior Camp Instructors to join our July summer program. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with children with special needs in a dynamic environment, fostering their growth and creating memorable experiences. Ideal candidates are passionate about working with children of all capabilities, enjoy engaging activities, and possess a positive attitude.
Prior experience in babysitting, working with children in small groups, summer camps, etc. is a plus, but a genuine interest in working with children is essential. This position provides a rewarding environment where you can make a meaningful impact on young lives while developing valuable skills.
Empower Summer Camp is for children with special needs. Candidates with experience working with children with special needs will be given more preference.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage children in various camp activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and educational sessions
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers at all times
- Assist with planning and implementing daily schedules that promote fun, learning, and social development
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages teamwork and respect among campers
- Support campers with their needs, including guiding behavior and providing encouragement
- Collaborate with fellow staff members to create a cohesive camp experience
- Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding camper progress or concerns as needed
Experience
- Prior experience working with children through small groups, tutoring, teaching, developmental/behavioral aide support, or early childhood education.
- Demonstrated ability to engage children in educational and/or recreational activities
- Strong communication skills and patience when working with diverse age and abilities groups
- Passion for outdoor activities, arts, sports, or educational programs is beneficial
- Ability to work outdoors and maintain high energy levels throughout the day

Pay: $14.00-$16.00 per hour

A Vulnerable Sector Check must be obtained within 6 months of the summer camp (no earlier than January 6, 2026). First Aid/CPR must be current (not expired) for the duration of the camp for candidates 18 + years.

- The summer camp is located in Sundance, SE. Are you able to commute daily to the location?
- Can you swim? (Activities may take place at Lake Sundance. We would need to know how many camp instructors are comfortable going in the water with the campers. This is not a requirement for the job.)
